Chapter Nine

Reece’s POV

I can hear her breathing and the sound of paper moving. This morning my mother talked about Payton. She wants her to sit with me and I plainly told my mother that I do not need a baby sitter! I am not five! I can take care myself. What does she do? Goes ahead and calls her! So I wake up to them yapping loudly.  I tried to get Payton to leave, but the girl is stubborn, maybe if I don’t talk to her, she’ll get bored and leave.

My back is starting to hurt from lying down. I really need to sit up. Normally there’s a remote for that by the bed, I think. Stretching out my hand I search for the remote, I run my hands around my sides and come up blank. What the hell? Where is the damn thing?

“Stupid ass remote,” I mutter as I release a string of colorful words.

“Um… Reece?” a weak, feeble voice asks me and I will admit it is kind of cute.

“What?” I snap, but my anger is not towards her. I am just so aggravated that I cannot find this damn remote.

“W- what are you looking for?” her cute voice asks stuttering at first. I can honestly sense some fear in her voice, not that I blame her. I am an ass. Oh well it doesn’t matter she probably thinks I am some blind incapable freak.

“I want to sit up, I am sick of lying,” I say to her as I continue my search.

I hear the sound of movement and someone standing up, then footsteps approaching me. A soft, warm, little hand grabs my wrist and I am startled by the sparks that shot through my arm. The hand slowly guides mine down to a cool plastic object which I am guessing to be the remote. Then the hand move to my hand folding all of my fingers down except for my pointer then runs it over the buttons to the one that sits me up. She pushes my finger down on the button and I feel myself sitting up from the stupid lying down position. She releases my hands and all the sparks leave me. I hear some movement as she sits back down and the paper sound returns.

“Thanks,” I mumble as I lean my head back and just listen to her breathing and all these little sounds I can hear now. This is so boring! I feel like I should twiddle my thumbs.

“What are you doing Payton? I hear a paper noise,” I say after hearing the paper noise again and again.

“You know who I am?” she asks me confused. Is she crazy? Of course I do. I cannot tell her that, though, it will probably freak her out.

“Yeah, my mom talks about you,” I say as I move my eyes to look over at her, stupidly I cannot see and my face becomes sad. “So what are you doing?” I ask with a sad sigh.
