Chapter Twenty-Two
Payton’s POV
His dark eyes glow a dark anger at me. One step at a time he nears my body curled in a ball on the floor. “Get off the ground you worthless piece of crap! You are spineless! Get up!” his harsh voice bellows and my body shakes as he towers over me.
“P-please, don’t,” I beg as he glares down at me and I swallow hard, choking back the tears knowing what was going to happen next. He bends down and grabs my small body by my shirt and lifts me up onto my feet. He drawls back and hits me in my face. I cry out unable to prevent it.
“You ugly cry baby! I wish you were never born!” he yells in my face and some spit lands on it. With all the strength I have left I hold back the tears. He begins hitting me and each hit hurts until I feel my world darkening and my mom’s voice in a distant screaming. Then fighting and then all I see is darkness and his haunting face.
“NO!” I scream as I wake up and realize it had all been a nightmare. Then the haunting truth faces me, it was not a nightmare. It was my past.
I get out of bed and look at the clock, 5:50am. Good enough time to get up I guess, I think as I toss my blanket from me and get out of my bed fully awake this time. I go to my closet and with drawl a black t-shirt and some jeans along with underwear. I carry them out the bathroom and strip my pj’s and step into the warm shower. I try wash all the memories away but end up crying. Finally the tears stop and I am clean so I climb out of the shower and dry of pulling on my underwear and then the t-shirt over top and then the jeans that actually fit my form.
I look down at a few fading scars on my arms and a couple on my face that are not noticeable, but I see them. Today is probably not going to be my day.
I brush my hair and leave it hanging around my shoulders. I finish in the bathroom and leave going back to my bedroom and pull on Reece’s hoodie jacket on and then slip on some shoes. I grab my things and head downstairs knowing my mom is still asleep.
In the kitchen I grab a banana. I know what you’re thinking, what not an apple? Nope, thought I would change it up. Plus I am out of apples!! I peel the yellow skin from the banana and begin eating it and sip my water. I leave the house and walk to the car and climb inside, starting it up and turning the heat on high. It’s really chilly this morning. Sitting in the car I finish my banana, placing the peal in the cup holder beside my water. I unscrew the plastic cap of the bottle and take a long drink before recapping it and placing it back down. I shift the car into drive and set out onto the journey to school.
I arrive at school and do the same invisible routine of going my locker and then to class. In class everything goes as normal and I still remain the same nobody as always. The bell rings dismissing us to lunch and I gather my things, in no hurry, and walk causally to my locker changing out my things. I sling my full back on top of my shoulder and shut my locker door walking away to the library.
