Chapter Eight

Payton’s POV

Quack! Is that a duck? Why do I hear a duck? Quack! What the heck? Sitting up I look at my phone to see it is flashing. Oh, it’s my phone! I reach over and answer it without looking at the screen. Looking at it would have been pointless, My eyes haven’t opened up yet.

“Hello?” I say as I rub my eyes.

“Good morning Payton, it is Georgia. I’m sorry to wake you, I thought you’d be up getting ready for the hospital,” she says and you can hear the guilt in her voice. I feel bad it’s not her fault I sleep in by accident.

“Oh! It’s ok! I needed to get up I overslept. What can I do for you?” I ask as I stretch and run my fingers through my brown hair, or at least try.

“Reece woke up last night. It was difficult with him and emotional. He is depressed and angry, sad, and confused because of being blind. It’s just a hard time and extremely long night. Leonardo had to go to his office to work on some business so he can miss more and be with Reece. Conner has Rayne trying to keep her from asking questions about Reece that are pretty hard to answer. Juliet had to go to school today to get make up work. I was wondering since you are always here, if you would mind sitting with him for an hour or two tops this morning while I run around quickly and do things I need to?” she asks then it sounds like she’s holding her breathe and is nervous.

Crap! Well, we all know my answer, dang I need grow a darn spin. This is going be an interesting morning. He’s awake. She wants me babysit him. He doesn’t know me. Conclusion: he’ll think I am a stalker.

Just say no dummy! “Sure yeah I’ll do it. I should be there in half an hour I have to take the bus,” I say with a sigh as I stand up and stumble to my closet tripping over papers and articles of clothing.

“Payton do you not have a car?” Georgia asks in shock.

“No, my mom does and she’s at work,” I explain trying make it sound like it’s nothing because to me it is nothing.

“Do you at least have your licenses dear?” she asks and I shake my head, why is she so curious.

“Yeah I have mine,” I tell her as I look for something to wear.

“Oh, hmmm… well dear I will save you the trouble of catching the bus. Conner and Rayne have to go by Conner’s school to pick up some work so he could swing by and pick you up then drop you off here. He will not mind and it will give you a chance to meet them. Just give me your address,” she says and I know she is just trying to be helpful. Honestly, though, it will be a little awkward riding in a car with a guy I don’t know.
