Chapter Thirty-Five
Reece’s POV
“Is this what it is like for you normally?” Payton’s sweet voice asks me as I help her find her fork by guide her hand around like I do with mine.
“Yes, pretty much,” I say so her once she gets the feel of the plate and fork and eating.
“I don’t see how you do it,” she whispers lightly and my ears pick it up crystal clear.
“It is definitely not without challenges, but I have learnt to take it one step at a time,” I say simply with a sad smile slipping onto my face as I pick up my fork and take a bite of the food.
“Reece, you are absolutely amazing,” she says with a clear strong voice and I smile.
“You are too,” I say simply as I feel gently around the table until reaching the glass in my hand and taking a drink.
The room is silent except for are breathing and chewing of the food which is quit soothing. Occasionally I hear Payton mumble a few swear words as I guess she has trouble eating. There is also times when she lets out a small moan as she enjoys the food, which I can tell because I can listen to her chewing.
“Reece?” her voice breaks the silence a few minutes later.
“Yes?” I reply to her as I take another bite.
“I noticed something about your parents,” she states bluntly and I hear the sound of her chewing again. What has she noticed?
“What would that happen to be?” I ask her calmly, I wonder what it is. Maybe it’s the fact that my parents are totally twenty four seven happy.
“It’s just that your parents are always happy, they never seem to get anger. No offence, but it just isn’t normal,” she says and I sigh. Of course! I knew it was going come up sooner or later. I don’t blame her for finding this weird, I would too if it weren’t my family. Heck who am I kidding I find this weird.
“They weren’t always like this believe it or not. They only have been this way since the accident. Before we were the normal family, we fought, I got in trouble normal. It’s different now and honestly, kind of sucks. Everyone is walking on ice around me and it is an awful feeling,” I tell her honestly and it does feels amazing to get that off my chest. It has been driving me insane thinking about it. I take one last bite of my food filling full.
“That sucks Reece, I have no clue what that would be like,” she says to me and I feel her warm hand slip into mine.
