Chapter Sixteen
Payton’s POV
“Good morning May!” I say with a bright smile. She turns to face me as I walk towards the elevator.
“Good morning Payton!” she says back with a kind smile. The elevator doors slowly slide open and two doctors in white coats along with two nurses step out off it giving me a smile. Stepping inside I hit the number lighting it up and the doors slowly shut. I cannot wait to see Reece, for some reason I just feel drawn to him and it feels like we’ve known each other forever. Ding! The doors slide open and the nervous tingles shot through me as I adjust my bag higher on top of my shoulder. No matter how many times I see Reece I still get nervous. I hate my nerves!
I reach his door and lightly tap on it, not wanting to barge in or anything. “Come in!” his voice calls and I smile slowly open the door.
Reece is sitting up in his bed; the top of the blanket is collected at his waist. His brown hair is wet and falling onto his face and almost to his eyebrows. His blue eyes are sparkling and he looks so clean and the large smile on his face tells me he is at least in a good mood.
“Hi Reece, you seem in a good mood this morning,” I say with a smile as I pull my normal chair up beside his bed and sit down dropping my bag to my side.
“Morning Payton,” he says with his dazzling smile as he turns his head to the side so his face is in my direction. “I am in a great mood! I took a shower this morning…” he says and pauses for a second so I speak.
“That’s good you took a shower you were developing an odor,” I joke and he lightly chuckles causing his chest to vibrate and shake.
“I took a shower, by myself!” he says ignoring my comment and smiling proudly. I sit in shock! He was able to take a shower by himself!! He is improving so much!
“Reece, that’s great!” I exclaim as I leap up and wrap my arms around him hugging him. Crap! What am I doing hugging him!? I slowly begin to pull away awkwardly as blood pumps to my cheeks. Then, I feel his strong arms wrap around my back hugging me back. I smile as the fireworks take off and I then bit my lip. Finally a minute later we pull apart and I am blushing. I sit in the chair and try to pretend nothing happened. Reece is in his bed with a construed face that looks like he is in deep concentration.
A couple awkward, silent minutes past and I shift uncomfortably in my seat. Clearing my throat I bend down to retrieve my book from my backpack. “Lesson time,” I say breaking the silence as i place the book upon his lap and crack it open to the alphabet again.
“Yay,” he says sarcastically and I roll my eyes. He reaches up and runs his hand through his hair.
