Chapter Thirteen
Reece’s POV
“Is there any pizza?” I ask as I grip the plastic try tighter.
“What kind?” her sweet voice asks from beside me.
“Pepperoni,” I say and stare straight ahead. This is the first time I have been in a public like place.
She loops her arm through mine sending a spark wave through my body. “What can I get you?” a girl’s voice asks and it seems kind of flirty? I just keep a blank expression on my face. This is freaking crazy. I hate this. I cannot see anything. I want see what people look like or my food.
Payton clears her throat and I am curious to why. If I could see I would be able to see why. “We’ll have two pieces of pepperoni and two pieces of cheese,” she says by my side.
I am so tense, it’s just I cannot help but think of what people are thinking and saying about me, probably that I am a freak. I hear plates sitting down and Payton’s warm hand return to my arm and she leads me somewhere. I feel like a dog being lead everywhere.
“What do you want to drink?” her sweet voice asks and it warms my insides. Reece stop! No girl will ever like a blind boy! I tell myself.
“Water,” I reply simply. I hear the sound out her sitting a cup down onto my tray and then grabbing my arm leading me with her.
“That’ll be ten dollars dear,” A older lady’s voice says and I hear Payton sit her tray down and make some shuffling sounds. A minute later her hand returns to my arms and guides me to a table is my guess. She stops us and theres a sound of her tray sitting down.
“Here,” she says taking my tray from my poor hands and sitting it down. She disappears and I reach out finding the cool metal bar of the back of the chair. Pulling it back towards me I allow my hand to slip down the back of it and land in the seat of it. I angle my butt to sit where my hand is. Once my butt rests safely into the seat I allow a small smile to stretch upon my face. “You are getting really good at that,” she says telling me and I can since a smile in her voice.
“Thanks, a lot of practice,” I say as I smile at her and pick up my pizza and rises it to my lips taking a bite of it. Honestly, I kind of want to prove to her that I don’t need help and I can still do something’s on my own. You know trying to impress her even though she will never like me. I honestly would give anything to just be able to look at her one last time and drink in her looks. I release a sad sigh and take another bite from my pizza.
“What’s wrong?” Payton asks me and I can hear the concern in her voice.
“I just wish I could see some things again just for a second,” I say softly and take another bite from my pizza.
