Chapter Ten: Not That Bad

Chapter Ten

Payton’s POV

            “Lila please wake up, I just want to hear your voice one more time. When you went into surgery this last time I never thought you would slip into a comma. I know there are always risks with surgery, especially this big, but I just want you to wake up so I can hear your sweet voice,” I whisper as I sit down next to Lila, holding her hand and tears stream down my face. She has to wake up. I cannot take not having her in my life. She is another reason why we don’t have very much money, the hospital bills are very expensive.

            I remember before she got sick how she would wake me up by blaring One Direction. She always love the blonde, Irish one, Naill and honestly I would never admit this to her before, but I like the black hair one, Zayn. Now I wish I would have told her because she could never wake up. Funny how little things you never say can be so painful when you will never get the chance to say them.

            A knock comes from the door and I sit up sniffling and wiping away my tears. The door opens and Georgia walks in with a sad smile. “Hi, Payton,” she says as she comes over to me.

            “Hey, how’s Reece?” I ask involuntary, and she smiles a little larger.

            “He’s fine. The nurse took him out for his first walk. I just wanted to thank you for your help and give you this,” she says as she pulls out a set of some sort of keys, car I think and holds them towards me. “It’s one of our many extra cars. You can borrow it,” she says and I hold out my hand and she drops them into it. Why would she do this? It’s way to kind.

            “No, I can’t use your car. That’s way to kind,” I say trying to give the key back to her.

            “No dear, use it. I know you need it. Don’t worry about anything, I know you will help me a lot more in the future,” she insists.

            I release a sigh and nod. “Thank you,” I say softly and stand up wrapping my arms around her neck.

            “You’re welcome,” she says back to me hugging me tightly. “I better get going he may be back by now,” she says as she releases me and walks towards the door. “Do you mind sitting with him a little tomorrow morning?” she asks me. Well I cannot say no to her for sure, she just gave me one her cars to use.

            “Sure, I will be there,” I say with a smile and she nods walking out the door.

            What have I just got myself into?  Spending more time with grumpy butt, the annoying voice in my head says.

            I lean over and kiss Lila’s head as I roll my eyes at myself. “Bye, Lila, I love you,” I say softly as I turn and walk out of her room.
