Chapter Forty-Two

Reece’s POV

My phone vibrates against me and I pull it out. “New Text Message from My Angel,” my phone says.

“Open message,” I instruct to it, completely aware of Clair still sitting by my side.

“Angel, that’s cute,” Clair says in her usual chipper voice.

“Reece, are you okay? Where are you?” The phone says reading my message. Why is Payton so worried?

“Clair, what time is it?” I ask as I scrunch up my face in confusion.

“Crap, I’m sorry Reece, it’s half way through first,” she replies, her voice sounds sad and I sigh.

“It’s fine, not your fault,” I tell her offering a smile to her. “Reply to message,” I tell my phone.

A few minutes later it vibrates again and I have it open. “Angel I am fine, don’t worry about me. I am just talking to someone, Payton. It is all okay; I will be in next period. I love you,” I say replying to the message. She replies with an ‘I love you too’ and I return my phone back to my pocket.

“That is really sweet, you seem really happy Reece,” Clair states with a still chipper voice and I nod my head smiling.

“Thank you Clair. You don’t sound like you’ve changed to much. What have I missed with you? Do you have someone now?” I ask her raising an eyebrow with a smile.

“Well, thanks Reece,” she says sarcastically, and giggles as she lightly punches my shoulder in what seems to be a playful manner.

“I didn’t mean that in a bad way,” I chuckle, shaking my head. I am really enjoying being around her again. It kind of reminds me of the past. I am really shocked at how ok and normal she seems around me, but she was always the kind of girl not to dwell on little things.

“I know, but to respond to your question you’ve missed a lot, I am now super ugly and just the total opposite of what I was,” she says in a joking tone and I chuckle. “No seriously, though, I haven’t changed that much at all, besides growing up. Other than that I am me. As for you other question I did have a few boyfriends after you, none stuck. Except for the last one, up until I found him in bed with my friend the day before I moved so that went down the toilet,” she says in a slightly less happy voice almost coming off forced.

“I am so very sorry Clair that is awful. You want me to go beat him up for you?” I offer with a cheeky smile and she laughs, I don’t blame her I can be pretty darn funny.
