Chapter 14.

At the end of Chapter 13:  The wedding the next day was beautiful. Leyla and Emre both seemed to be very happy. Everything had gone as planned and the couple left for a three-week honeymoon to the Caribbean Islands. Can and Sanem were glad everything went well but were still concerned about the newlyweds. They knew only time would tell what would happen in Leyla and Emre's marriage. They could not interfere with their future. They could only help take care of Leyla and support and encourage the couple.

The newlyweds returned from their trip and moved into the house where Emre and Can had lived in together before Can and Sanem married. Aziz and Mihriban had moved to her farm. Aziz was in the process of retiring and just going into the Agency occasionally. He and Mihriban loved the farm life, growing vegetables and fruits, and having chickens for eggs.

When Leyla and Emre went back to work at the Agency, Leyla received a promotion as the Co-Director of the Finance Department. She and Emre now shared the duties and responsibilities of the position. Since their wedding, Can and Sanem had also been sharing a role at the Agency, as Directors of and managing the Creative Department.

It was soon apparent that Leyla and Emre would need an assistant, especially now since Leyla was pregnant. The Human Resources Department sent a woman named Melis to work with them in the Finance Department. When Sanem met Melis, she knew that she was hiding something. Also, Melis unashamedly and constantly flirted a lot with both Emre and Can. Sanem decided to keep an eye on Melis because she felt something was not right. She was not worried about Can but she was worried about Emre's interactions with Melis.

Emre took Melis out to lunch on her very first day, but without Leyla. Leyla did not feel like eating so Emre had just gone out with Melis and left her in the office.

Sanem took Leyla some tea and crackers then talked her into going out for a walk and some fresh air during the lunch hour. She noticed that Leyla did not smile or talk very much. She was ten weeks pregnant and the first ultrasound showed that the baby was pretty small for this stage of the pregnancy. They hoped the next ultrasound would show the sex of the baby since the doctor could not tell with the first one.

Emre and Leyla had told Nihat and Mevkibe about the baby. The Aydin's were very excited and thought Leyla had gotten pregnant on the honeymoon. Leyla did not correct their assumption. She told Sanem that she and Emre did have a good time on their honeymoon and that she loved the Caribbean Islands.

As Sanem and Leyla were walking back into the Agency, they saw Emre and Melis return from lunch. They were laughing together. Sanem told Can what she had seen and what Emre had done. Can decided he would have a talk with his brother and see if his attitude was any better.

Over the next couple of weeks, Emre spent a lot of time with Melis. He even took her home after work a couple of times, leaving Leyla to catch a ride home with Can and Sanem. When Can tried to talk with Emre, he told Can to mind his own business and take care of his own marriage. Can and Sanem and all of the Agency staff noticed that Leyla was looking more and more sad.

On one particular day, Sanem noticed that Melis was getting many personal calls on her cell phone. She told Can to be prepared, that today was the day they find out the truth of what Melis was planning.

Sanem went over to the tea and coffee station and saw Melis sitting on the couch that was on the other side of the counter. Melis was on her phone and Sanem overheard her saying, "Yes, yes. I am working on the plan. Emre is going to be easy but Can rarely leaves Sanem's side. But don't worry; I can do this. Yes, I did get the money you sent. "
