When Mercedes called AJ for lunch that Saturday, claiming to want to hang out with the girls, she had assumed she meant her and Kitty. To her surprise, however, Kitty wasn't present that day. Instead, at the table Mercedes was in, Quinn, Santana and Brittany were with her. AJ widened her eyes in surprise a bit, but moved over to their table when Mercedes waved her over, greeting all the girls with a kiss before taking the empty seat they had all clearly left for her.
"You look great, AJ!" Quinn complimented her as soon as the woman took off her coat.
"Oh, really? Thank you." She smiled at the blonde. "I actually had to put a lot of makeup on because a few minutes before coming here I just threw up all of my breakfast."
"Really?" Santana asked. "Are you sick?"
"Probably something with the cheese I had earlier." AJ shrugged. "It was in the fridge for a while, I'm not gonna lie. Don't worry though, I'm sure it's not contagious or anything. So if we could avoid ordering anything too spicy or too seasoned, that'd be great."
"Oh, that's fine." Quinn assured. "We were thinking of ordering pasta anyway. Is that okay?"
"Yeah, that sounds great, thank you."
And so, they waved the waiter over, placing their orders for drinks and asking for about three different plates of pasta so they could all share. As soon as the waiter was gone, promising to be back with their orders as soon as they were done, the four women turned to AJ, as the red headed sighed.
"Let me guess..." She said. "You want to know about Sam and I."
"Well, now that you mentioned it..." Santana smirked as AJ scoffed.
"Well, come on, you two left our potluck together two weeks ago." Brittany said. "You don't need to be a genius to know where you went."
"And you were flirting the whole night too." Quinn added.
"And in the office, daily." Mercedes said. "Which you still continued doing every time you as much as breathe near one another."
"See, that's the thing... I'm not flirting with him." AJ said. "It's just the way I am."
"Look, fine. You like a little banter, you make your sarcastic comments. It's true, you do that with me all the time too." Mercedes argued. "But the way you look at Sam... You don't look at me like that."
"I don't know what you're talking about." AJ shook her head.
"Fine... You want to keep up with your little show of denial, no problem." Santana shrugged, as AJ turned to her with a frown, surprised by the bluntness. "But we all know you went to his house and you slept with him."
"Did you tell them?" AJ gasped, as she turned to Mercedes.
"Cedes told me, actually." Quinn spoke up in Mercedes' defense as AJ glared at the couple. "I was the one who told Brittany and Santana."
"But, really, we didn't need anyone to tell us about it." Santana said. "The sexual tension between you two that week was astronomical."
"Look, I'm gonna tell you what I told Mercedes and Kitty already." AJ sighed. "Yes, we were attracted to each other and yes we've slept together. But that's where it ends. We work together. Don't you guys know that it's like an unspoken rule that you shouldn't date your co-worker?"
"Well, it's kind of an unspoken rule that you shouldn't date your friends' ex either, but we never listened to that." Brittany said, as AJ frowned.
"What?"
"Excuse me, ladies." One of the waiters came over to give them their drinks.
The conversation stopped for a second then, as everyone waited for their drink before thanking the man and watching him leave again. As soon as he was far enough, AJ turned back toward the group of women around her as she raised an eyebrow at them.
