The atmosphere at work was as tense as it could be. Sure, Sam, Blaine, Kitty and Mercedes were still having fun together whenever they had a break, but, whenever Schuester was around everyone just grew silent, Sam specially.
If he was being honest, he wished he didn't have to be here anymore, but AJ had been right. They needed him in this job. After all, with her now in her 17th week of pregnancy, they had to buy her some vitamins, healthy foods and pay medical bills and that was without even mentioning all the baby stuff they still needed to buy. Besides, no one wanted to hire a pregnant woman, only to have her quit the job in a few weeks. So, sure... Sam did want to punch Schuester every time he as much as opened his mouth to speak, but he refrained himself, keeping up with doing his job for the man while missing having AJ just outside his office so he could call on her whenever a minor issue came up just as an excuse to see her. And he could tell their friends missed her too, especially Kitty. And, as much as they all talked to her on the daily and went to visit her every other week, Sam could tell they missed her and he could also tell they hated Schuester for what he had done to her.
And whenever he thought about it, he smiled, because he couldn't have asked for better and more supportive friends, he knew.
"Sam?" Kitty called, as she knocked on his door quietly, and pushed it open a bit. "Are you busy?"
"No, why?" He asked, looking up from his files and toward the secretary instead. "Do you need me for something?"
"Not me." Kitty sent him a small smile. "Schuester. He's asking for you to meet him at his office."
At that, Sam sighed, standing up from his desk as he started to make his way out of his office.
"Be nice, remember?" Kitty reminded him quietly, as Sam smiled, knowing full-well AJ had put her friend on duty of watching over him while at work. "Just a few more months."
"Don't know how long I can take this." Sam admitted, as Kitty shrugged.
"You need to." She said. "Now, be nice."
"I promise." Sam smiled at the blonde woman as she smiled, walking back toward her desk as Sam walked toward Mr. Schuester's office instead and knocked on the door. "You wanted to see me?"
"Oh, yes, Sam. Take a seat." Schuester said, pointing at one of the chairs in front of him, with a forced smile on his face.
Sam did what he was told, sitting down but keeping a careful eye on Schuester. The tension in the room was visible and anyone could cut it with a knife, but, when Schuester sighed, Sam supposed he was about to offer him some type of peace offering.
"Look, Sam... I know things have been weird since... Since, hum, well, you know." Schuester said, refraining from using the words he had thought of in fear of ticking the man in front of him. "But you're still my best employee and you've been doing a phenomenal job this past few weeks, in spite of the unfortunate circumstances you're finding yourself in."
"They're not unfortunate." Sam corrected him without missing a beat as Schuester sent him a glare. "But thank you, Mr. Schuester. It's good to know my work is being appreciated."
"Sure." Schuester huffed then. "The point is... In a few weeks, one of our biggest sponsors from Europe will be coming to pay us a visit and see how our work is being done and I wanted to appoint him to you so you could show him the ropes around. That is... If you're not too busy in a few weeks."
"How many weeks are we talking about here?" Sam asked, deciding to ignore the jab for the sake of a civilized conversation.
"He'll be arriving in two months." Schuester said and Sam stopped for a second to make the maths.
