(A/N just a quick not, please don't be offended about Ebola. I know it's serious and I'm not trying to make fun of it! Thank you! And I don't own the cover!)
Chapter 1
The Breakout
Ace
I walked down the hallway, quickly. My long deep brown hair tied back in a lose pony tail, bouncing as walked. I quickly fixed my tie as I started to approach my classroom. When I saw something unusual. On the far end of the hallway, stumbled a man. His clothes were tattered and his skin grey. His face was covered by a cap. I wondered who he was and why he was here but I didn't have time, I was late. --And that's when it happened. Two girls walked out of the classroom before him. He bumped straight into one of the girls, they both stopped and turned to him.
"Oh sor-" he opened his mouth, exposing rows of rotten teeth, before he sinking his teeth into her neck. As he ripped his mouth away from her, blood splattered all over them. The second girl gave out an ear piercing scream as her friend fell to the ground. Black veins started to cover her body, her skin turning grey. The girl's limbs were thrown around in impossible angles, but in a few seconds she stood up again. Her eyes blank. Her body rotten and bloody.
"HELP!! PLEASE!" the girl screamed, as the two rotten people, tackled her. Ripping her apart as she screamed, digging her bloody nails into the carpet. I froze in shock, not knowing what to do. My whole body was shacking, cold in fear. Pulling myself together, I turned to the door of my classroom and burst in.
"T-There are zombies! Zombies outside! We all need to get some where safe now!"I screamed panicking, not knowing what to do or say. But everyone just stared at me as if I was crazy.
"Ace! That is no way to come into the classroom! and you're late! Go outside and come in again!" shouted the teacher, but Echo, Dawn, Dean and Alice stared at me, knowing that I was serious. They could tell that I was serious, that this wasn't a prank, I wasn't that gutsy. But soon enough more loud screams confirmed what I had said. Everyone scurried over to the windows, facing out to the hallway. They all froze and stared, as I also just stood there, trying to calm down.
"There has been a strange out break. Please just all stay calm. We will start a normal fire evac- AAAAAHHHHH!!!! PLEASE!! PLEASE!!! HELP!!"came out from the speakers from the phones. It was pin drop silence for a few seconds, when everyone started to panic. Screams filled the room as people started running for the door, shoving each other out of the way, trampling on one another. Every man for himself. I braced myself, as I tried to get out of the chaos, walking towards the classroom. As soon as everyone was out, I slammed the door shut. Someone passing me a chair, as I wedged it underneath the handle. I took a deep breath in, leaning on the door as I gazed around the room. I noticed there were four other people with me. Alice stared out the window, into the hallway, her blue eyes wide and her messy blonde hair all over the place. Dawn, stood next to her, with the same shocked look on her face.
"W-what are t-they?" Dawn stammered, her hazel eyes shacking. Her brown hair was tightly tied back behind her head, barely touched by all the chaos.
"We don't know but. We need to come up with a plan." said a voice to my left, I quickly turned to see Echo. She seemed calm but I knew she was just trying to hide her fear. She continued to tie her long curly brown hair in a high pony tail. I nodded knowing she was right. But Dean just continued to stare outside the window, his messy curly hair, dyed like a flame.
"Ok, weapons." I clapped my hands, getting down to business.
"We'll probably have to wait this out, until it isn't as chaotic and then we need to move." Echo said as I started rummaging throughout the room. Soon Enough Alice and Dawn helped out but Dean continued to stare out the window, quietly.
"Here, tape these around your arms. We want long distance weapons, but if we need close distance, make sure they bite down on the text book, then stab them in the temples with a pair of scissors." Dawn explains as Echo threw us some tape, scissors and text books. I was worried about the others, are they ok? But at the moment I had to worry about what was happening with us.
"Found something." Dawn said as she pulled out a long pole with a sharp hook at the end. It was used to pull down the smart board.
"That's perfect, you can use it."Echo said as she pulled out a staple gun from the teacher's drawer. She smiled as she aimed it at the wall. It was pretty strong staple gun. The only person who wasn't helping was Dean who just sat there, observing and looking at his phone. He had a serious look on his face so I knew he was doing something important.
Finally he spoke up.
"Last night, a group of scientist were walking on a cure for Ebola. But when they texted their cure on the patient in bacteria bonded with the Ebola bacteria. Causing it to create a new virus. It isn't airborne but any bodily fluid contact will turn you into one of those in seconds. But sometimes it can take longer to spread across the body, sometimes hours or days." she read off her phone. All of us listened cautiously.
"I've observed that they're completely blind. They don't have very good sensitivity, but once they get a grip on you they won't let go, you're basically screwed. Their hearing is a little worse than the normal human being but they can still hear. If you want to kill them you have to distort their brain, but enough damage to the body can just stay it down." said Dean as he squinted.
We all nodded, when he finally got up to help out the rest of us.
A few hours past until we were getting ready to leave. Everyone held their own weapon, Dawn, her pole, Alice, a long wooden plank, Dean, guitar and scissor blades to throw and Echo, another pole but with a pair of scissors taped at the end. I myself held two long one meter rulers.
"The thing we really don't want is dead weight." stated Dean, as he started to take out text books.
"We also, don't want a back pack. Put all your food and supplies in your sport bag." Alice said as I started to put all my food and supplies into my shoulder bag, others following suit. I walked over to the window, facing out towards the main street. On the road was a parked bus, empty with a few broken windows. The road seemed pretty empty, just a few mobs of zombies, just not as many as I expected. We needed to get out of here, by climbing out the window. A ladder that's what we need.
"Rulers! We need all rulers!"I stated, as I pulled out my ruler.
"Why?" asked Alice, as she handed me her ruler.
"We need to make a ladder, by taping all the rulers horizontally onto a line of tape."
"We don't have enough rulers, break off the table legs."Echo turned over the table with Dean as they started to break off the legs.
After another hour or two we had created a long ladder. It wasn't exactly the safest but it was all we had.
"Ok, listen up. Dean, you go down first, and make sure no zombies come to close. As Ace and Alice cover you from the top, with the staple guns. I'll come down and help cover from below, Ace you'll be last. You gotta jump."Echo ordered as she handed us two tape guns.
"Wait you're gonna catch me?!?"I shouted in shock.
"Oi keep your voice down! Can go through a day without shouting?" Everyone snapped back.
"Hey, I've carried you around tones of times, don't worry about it!"Dean said with a smile. Ok now I don't want to be sexist but it's kind of weird getting a guy and girl to catch a guy. Even though I was a boy I was the lightest of the group
"Whatever, C'mon let's go."we opened the window and threw out the ladder.
I aimed and shot. Surprisingly it went well, until it got to the part where I had to jump.
"C'mon Ace! Jump!" Echo and Dean shouted. I hesitated, it was a long drop.
"If you fall I will caaaatttcchh youuuu!!!" Dean sung with smile on his face.
"Shut up!" I snapped back.
"C'mon! It's just like 'Trust'!"Echo shouted up to me.
"Except you don't jump down backwards!" Alice laughed.
"AND I don't 'Trust' you!"
They didn't have a lot of time and I needed to move. I crossed my fingers and jumped straight out the window and in their arms. Immediately, mobs of zombies turned to us. Staggering towards us.
"Shit! Go! Go! Go!!"Echo shouted as she placed me down and we started to run towards the road.
"Get in the bus!" I screamed.
When we reached the bus, Dean got me up on his shoulders and I climbed through broken window. I ran towards the front of the bus, looking for a button or something to open the doors.
"HURRY UP ACE!" shouted Echo, panicking.
"I am!!" I finally found a way to open the doors. They rushed in, as Echo stayed back a tiny bit to hold back the zombies.
"Echo!!" I screamed.
"I'm Coming! I'm coming! I'm coming!" she repeated as she finally ran in, as I shut the doors.
"That's what she said!" shouted with a smile on my face.
"Ace, is this really the time?"face palmed Dean.
Luckily the keys were still in.
"Alice! Can you drive?" asked as she jumped into the seat, starting up the bus, not answering my question.
"Hey! Answer my question!"I shouted one last time, as she placed her foot on the accelerate.
"Nup, but I know how to land a plane." she smiled as she stepped down on the peddle.
