Chapter 8

Quiet, Quick, Cunning

Dean

We hurried up the hill, skipping all the small shops, took a sharp turn to the left and into the bursting air-conditioning of Westfield. I was immediately hit with a disgusting smell of rotting flesh and blood. I tried to hide my disgusted face, as Ace simply smiled at my reaction.

"We should head down to Target, it better if we just go to one big shop with everything we need then smaller specialised shops. But on the way we can go through the restaurants, cafes, bakeries or whatever."I suggested as Ace nodded.
I had never seen him this quiet before, usually he is super loud and shouting all the time. He must be worried about his sister, just like I am about my brother. Only then did it come to my mind that quite a lot of us had siblings to worry about. Echo, and her younger sisters, Ender; a younger brother, sister and an older sister, Claude had tones of brothers and sisters, Katrissa two older sisters, Suki had a few brothers and sisters, Ace and his sister but the rest of us were all only children. I gave a heavy sigh before quickly picking up my pace. 'They' were everywhere, we had to be super careful about where we stepped, if we made any sounds or did anything to catch their attention. I did notice something though, they had like a 'dormant' stage, where they roamed 'peacefully' around the place.
"Hey, Dean! Wait up! You're too fast!"Ace whispered harshly as he jogged up next to me, trying to walk at my pace.
"Why are you such a fast walker? You turning into Blake? He's a fast walker, man."commented Ace as he attempted to power walk beside me, I never understood why he found it so hard to walk fast.
"Nup, I'm just a fast walker, you're  slower...and shorter."I teased.
It was true though, I grew a lot and was already originally a lot taller than Ace. He had been growing but so am I, so I do have longer legs though. I smiled at the thought of him being so much shorter than me and reached out to ruffle around his hair.
"Hey! Don't play with my hair when it's tied up!"he immediately snapped at me as I reached for his hair tie, immediately pulling it out.
His hair fell over his face, reaching just below his chest.
"I hate you."he pouted at me.
"I know you do."I sighed back, he told me that like every day.
Eventually we reached Target and hurried in.
"Do not worry peasants! Just fellew meh!"ordered Ace as he stepped forward pointing ahead, putting on a stupid voice.
"Uhh.... No, sorry, but, I'd rather die then trust your sense of direction."I simply answered bluntly as I headed to the right.
"Dean, you're hurting my feelings."Ace raced after me, just dodging the grasp of a Zombie.
"That's what I intended to do."I answered sarcastically.
We decided to get a change of more comfortable, particle and protective clothes. Luckily we were already in the clothing section so all we had to do was find our size. Soon enough, I found a black T-shirt with a cat eyes on it and black jeans as well. I also slipped on a black leather jacket for protection.
"Do I look fabulous?"asked Ace as he stepped out from behind the shelf, with his hands underneath his chin.
He was wearing the most ridiculous clothes I had ever seen.
"Very."I laughed.
He returned the smile before turning back around and changing again. Ace returned in a simple pair of lose pants, a white shirt with messy black writing all over it and a strong black 'drug dealers coat', plus a red scarf.
"Dude Your pants...."I commented, he should wear jeans.
"I hate jeans though! They're uncomfortable and I can't run in them!" He whined back, as I rolled my eyes.
We both changed our shoes to combat boots; comfortable to run in and protective.
"We should probably get some spare clothes and stuff, if we can fit it... you know just in case someone gets injured or something..."Ace suggested as I nodded along grabbing a few extra shirts.
"Well then, Dude, we better get moving onto weapons."We started to walk towards the gardening area, Ace following closely behind me.
Every second we saw an infected, the floor was covered in blood making it very hard to walk without making a sound.
"HOLY SHIT!"Ace exclaimed as he jumped back slipping in a puddle of blood.
Crawling towards him was a familiar girl covered in thick crimson blood. She didn't seem infected... Yet, just very badly injured, unable to walk.
"Help...H-help. D-Dean? D-...Dean! Please help me! Help me!"the bleeding girl cried at me, blood trailing down her face from the top of her head.
Then it hit me. I remember this... This... bitch. I hated her and I still do. The biggest fucking bitch I had ever met in my life. I felt my blood boil as the memories flooded back into my mind. At that point I smiled at her dying and begging at my feet. She opened her mouth to beg for help another time. But all it did was cause my smile to grow wider.
"Sure, I'll help you."I smiled as I held my guitar above my head, bringing it down quickly Into her skull.
There was a satisfying crack as the guitar crushed her skull causing the insides the splatter everywhere. I noticed some pieces of bloody flesh among all the blood that covered my shoes and the floor. I quickly snapped out of the moment and turned to Ace. He didn't seem that shocked, but didn't appreciate the fact that I had caught the attention of many other infected around the area, and the fact that now we had blood all over our new clothes.
"Good work, Dean. Now move your ass."ordered Ace as we started to run in the opposite direction of the corpses heading towards us.
I quickly skidded across the floor almost tripping over my own feet and took a sharp turn down an aisle, leading towards the gardening tool section.
"Dean! Make up your goddamn mind!"Ace half whispered at me as he over ran down the aisle.
I quickly made it down to the gardening section grabbing the first weapon possible. I quickly spun around throwing a pair of secateurs in the direction I came from. But Immediately came face to face with Ace just dodging it.
"Holy shit, Dean! Chill your pill!"he mouthed at me as the secateurs went straight into the skull of the zombie behind him.
"Oh my gosh! I'm sorry!"I apologized as I cover my mouth.
Ace just raised his eye brows as he stepped past me looking through all the garden tools. As expected he chose two hedge cutters. We also had to get weapons for the others so we looked around for what else we could hold. The garden tools were heavy so it'd be easier if we had lighter weapons. Down the other aisle I noticed the water children section. Perfect. I ducked past to the next aisle grabbing two water guns and back with Ace.
"Let's split up, I gotta go get some stuff and you can go get some stuff as well."I suggested as Ace just shrugged, both of us ditching our original weapons.
I quickly hurried off to the section where you would find bleach. It luckily wasn't too far from where I was. Down the back of the aisles there weren't a lot of zombies. So I quickly grabbed a bottle of bleach and carefully screwed off the lid. I didn't have time to find gloves. This definitely wasn't me, but it's a fricken zombie apocalypse and I just needed to do it. I carefully poured the dangerous liquid into both guns and picked up the bottle as well. As I stood up to head back I searched for a bow. They had to have one somewhere. I searched a little through the aisles until I found the nerf section, looking through the bows, I finally found one I could work with. Taking it out of the packaging I broke off a few parts and used the wire from the packaging to adjust it. I got up and grabbed a few packets of Sharp metal rods, slipping it into a bag I grabbed along the way. While I was there I also searched for weapons for the others, grabbing a pair of two meter metal rods as well. On the way back I also came across some rubber gloves, a metal mod ball bat and a cricket bat. When I returned to Ace he held a huge axe with a long handle, a nail gun with ammo, his own weapons and a long handled pickaxe. We were having a little issue carrying everything, so we shared out the weight so it was more convenient to hold and not get injured.
"We have more than enough weapons so let's get moving. What's the time?"I asked as Ace glanced at his watch.
"3:20."
