Chapter 5
Restaurant
Katrissa
We finally reached our destination and 'parked' by the road, smashing straight into the curb.
"C'mon guys, we've gotta go look for shit."Blake said as we started to walk.
There were two ways, go forward or down the streets behind us.
"So, which way should we go?"Blake questioned.
"We'll go up first, but we're definitely not going to split up. But if one of us does seem to get left behind or something we'll meet back here."I ordered as everyone nodded.
We started to walk up, past the deserted benches and shops until we came to Westfield, a big shopping center. I was wondering if we should go straight in or go to another show first.
"Shall we?"I asked as I turned to the others.
"Nah, we should go to Lemon Grove first."Blake replied as the others offered no help.
I sighed and turned to Walk to the other side of the street. Claude and Suki contributed in conversations, but most of their comments were useless. We came to the opening of the shopping center and readied our weapons for attack. I paused and waited.
"What are you waiting for?"Blake half whispered.
"You go."I half ordered back.
"What? No you go."
"Hey, who was the one who's always like, 'Uuuhhh! Katrissa you're such a wimp!' when you're a wimp yourself!"I snapped back.
"Hey! Ladies first!"
"Hey-"I started but was interrupted by a shushing sound.
"Sshhhhhh..... They'll hear you."hushed Claude as he started to walk forward almost playfully
I followed quickly after him as Suki walked in behind me and Blake last. As soon as we came to the main part of the small shopping center we were welcomed by dormant scattered zombie. The floors and walls were painted red, in all different shapes. All of us stayed quiet almost trying not to breath. There were about three levels but it was only a small shopping center so we didn't need to spend too much time in here. I gestured towards the restaurant to my left as the others nodded. Claude walked carefully in first as we followed next. The restaurant was chaos, chairs and tables upside down, broken glass and food everywhere. We all went straight for the kitchen. We knew the food was safe due to the fact that Ebola hadn't actually reached us yet, the disease came from the science lab in Australia. I gripped my pan, as shivers went down my spine. The kitchen was a bloody mess, guts smothered the once white tiles. There was a disgusting organ on the floor, as I stepped on one, the pink flesh engulfing my shoe. I immediately jumped back holding in the urge to scream, as Blake held in the urge to laugh. I shot him a dirty glare as we continued to walk. That's when we noticed something, a zombie in the path way to the storage room. Now this wouldn't be such a big problem if it wasn't due to the fact that the path was very narrow, and could only fit one person. We had already established that they were blind and that they couldn't hear very well, but could they smell us? I turned to Blake giving him a troubled look. But he just returned with a smile and wink. And before I knew it, he ran forwards thrust his spear straight into his chest. I quickly ran over to help, swinging my pan, just past Blake's head and into its' head. There was a loud satisfying crack as it fell to the ground, leaving a bloody trail on the wall.
"What the hell? You could've killed me!"Blake snapped at me, keeping his voice down.
"But I didn't" I replied with a shrug, trying to hold back my laughter.
We cautiously stepped over it, and straight into the store room. There weren't a lot of food in there though, a lot of it was all over the floor or scattered around the place, or taken already, the only thing we were able to get was a few packets of noodles and some rice, but nothing else. We all quickly hurried out, as I walked over to the information stand. Apparently the floor that we were on was the only food floor. So there was no point in going up. But there was still a small Chinese grocery shop on this floor. I attempted to mouth and show them what I had worked out, but after a lot of face palms and tilted heads they finally got it. We walked over to the shop and started to raid all the isles. This place was still pretty chaotic, but not as chaotic as the restaurant. I went down one of the isles as the others looked around else where. I grabbed all the canned food, slipping it all into plastic bags. After I was done I hurried back to the other sections. I came to the freezer isle where Blake was and helped him get all the water we could hold. Until a loud high pitch scream filled my ears. Blake and I looked at each other and quickly ran towards the sound, there stood Suki. She was on top of a zombie, stabbing it repeatedly in the head with her knife. Her eyes were wide and practically white, her face drenched in blood and horrified.
"I-is it dead yet?"she stammered.
"It's alright, Suki."I said as I tried to calm her down.
"You idiot! Why did you scream! Now you've attracted like all of them!"Blake shouted at her angrily.
"Shut up, Blake!"I shouted angrily as him.
"C'mon! We gotta go!"Claude dashed round the droned towards us.
I quickly helped Suki walk as I pulled her along as we ran. I tried to ignore how impractical our sports uniform was and how bare my skin was. I never felt particularly bare in the uniform, but the fact that I was not protected if they were to bite my arm, made my arms feel bare.
"We need to lose them!"I shouted at Blake as we broke out into the sunlight.
"Or we could just fight them!"Blake shouted back, as Claude threw three dinner knives, two missing but the third going straight into a zombie's head. Luckily we had lost most of them, before us only walked five...but now four. I quickly ran back, creating a good distance before aiming my knife and throwing it, it buried itself straight into it's chest. It fell back onto the floor but not dead, still twitching and moving... But down though.
"Frick man."I murmured as I wiped the sweat off my forehead.
"C'mon we better get moving before they start moving again."I said as I gestured towards Westfield.
"But they're already moving." Claude answered innocently.
I rolled my eyes as the others did as well and hurried through the automatic sliding doors. I was immediately hit in the face with air conditioning and the stench of blood and rotting flesh. Thus the shopping center was massive so we were going to have to take a loonnnggg time to go through everything.
"We should get a change of clothes." suggested Suki.
I nodded happily agreeing, my clothes were also drenched in blood and ripped and tattered. Plus they were also very impractical for a zombie apocalypse. So we started to walk forward into the zombie infested shopping center.
