Chapter 7
Let's Actually Get Some Shit Done
Alice
We walked down, past all the hectic shops. We eventually came to an open men clothing shop, with manikins all over the place, which sent shivers down my spine. I felt a cold plastic hand on my shoulder as I immediately spun around.
"Ah!"I shouted in shock, but only to see Echo laughing her bum off with a manikin arm in her hand.
I rolled my eyes and continued to walk until we reached Bread Top. It was a perfect place to get food supplies.
"Guys."I said as I shook my head towards the shop.
I carefully stepped in first, holding my wooden plank before me, ready. There were trays and bread all over the floor, but surprisingly it wasn't that chaotic. We all quickly grabbed all the bread that we could and dashed out immediately (which wasn't much since this place looked as if it was already raided). I don't know why but being in small shops always sent shivers down my spine. We came to cross over, the pathway going three different ways. The Forward and left pathways both joined down to the same shopping center and to the right there were only a few more shops before you hit the main road.
"C'mon let's go this way."Echo edged as we turned to the right first. We went straight to the kitchen wear shop. I hesitated before just going straight in and let Echo go I'm first. There were pots and pans everywhere, all possible weapons.
"Hey guys look!"Dawn, shouted over to us excitingly.
The both of us walked over to see what was up. But all she was doing was holding a fake red apple in both of her hands before her. I didn't really get what she was trying to do but telling from Echo's face palm it wasn't very good. So I continued to scout around looking for things I could use as a weapon. I grabbed a pan but hesitated, the handle was to short.
"Hey guys, we're not going to find anything good here."Echo finally said as she only returned with a few kitchen knives.
"Then let's go to Chase."suggested Dawn as we agreed and followed her out.
We walked down the cold quiet streets in silence until we reached the big sliding doors to Chase. Outside was parked a white Van with tinged windows. Never trust a white van with tinted windows. It had a few stickers on the back window, making it look more like a family car. But you never know... We walked through them only to be hit by a metallic stench. Knowing what it was I held back the urge to throw up and continued to walk straight ahead. We headed straight for the first clothing shop. I hated walking and running around in such an impractical uniform.
"C'mon, let's get a change of clothes. These uniforms aren't made for zombie apocalypses,"Echo said as we walked into the clothing shop.
"Nuh duh." I said in a stupid voice.
All the clothes in there were all too exposing and impractical so we walked out and continued to look around for other places. We finally came to a clothes shop and got into more comfortable and particle clothes. I slipped on a plane orange T-shirt, and a black vest with a thick blue jacket over it all. I also slipped on a frilly black skirt, with rainbow leggings, and high brown boots.
"Very attractive."winked Echo as she glanced over at what I hand changed into.
But hey, it was stylish to me. Particle, the jacket had a protective layer on it and the leggings and skirt were also really easy to move around in.
"Hey, it's particle and beautiful."I smiled as I stomped my feet.
Echo wore a pair of ripped denim jeans, on top she wore a simple dark shirt with a weird pattern on it and a denim jacket. And finally just a pair of practical black boots.
"And your clothes aren't particularly practical either."I shot back at her, with a smirk.
"Hey guys! Do I look swaggy?"Dawn butted in as she folded her arms and leaned back, wearing sunglasses and a cap back to front.
"Hashtag Swag!"Echo and Dawn laughed, as I rolled my eyes.
Echo and I waited as Dawn went back into the change rooms to actually change properly. After a short time Dawn walked out, wearing a grey butterfly shirt and jeans, with a leather jacket. Echo and Dawn had both slipped into a pair of boots as well.
"C'mon let's get some shit done"Echo said as we followed her out.
We walked past many different shops until Dawn mentioned that there was a Coles down stairs. So we had to start heading down again. There wasn't many food shops that weren't already raided or were just unsafe. And at times I swear I saw or heard some familiar voices, survivors. But I Was pretty sure I was just going crazy. When we reached the bottom level, we had to quickly sneak past some zombies and get to the entrance. As usual the floor and lighting wassuper bright, except for the fact that there was red paint covering some of it.
"Ok guys, Why don't we split up. We all go in different sections and collect whatever needed supplies. Does everyone have a watch or a phone?"Echo started instructing as I showed her my watch.
"Mhmm, I'll try and find weapons and the meat stuff, since you guys are pussies (I'm just kidding), Alice, you get the medical/toiletries stuff and canned food, and Dawn, you can get all the vegetables, fruit, you name it."she ordered as we agreed but were annoyed by her comment though.
Dawn and I both nodded as we split in our different directions. I gripped my weapon, my heart racing faster every time I turned a corner or and aisle. As I came to the area with all the baskets and trolleys, I quickly grabbed a black plastic basket. Every step I took I made sure it was quiet and careful. After wondering around, looking for the toiletry/medical section, I finally found it. But due to the fact that there was a Walker blocking my way. I had seen them roaming all over the place but now it was seriously in my way. I took a deep breath, reminding myself that they were blind. All I had to do was duck past him, but then something hit me. If I threw something not to loud to get all of their attention but to just attract this one, away from this aisle. I searched around for something that would make a small sound. I turned to the tissue boxes behind me and emptied it so it wouldn't make too much sound. My bad throwing skills, please don't fail me now. I aimed and threw it to the end of the aisle near the freezer section. Immediately it's head shot up, turning towards the sound. It finally started to slowly stagger towards the tissue box on the floor. I took in a tight breath of relief as I quickly headed over to the shelves, trying not to make single sound. I held the basket before me as I threw all the bandages and medication I could take, constantly glancing back. But I made sure I only took what was needed. After I had taken all the medical stuff that was needed I went back to looking down all the aisles for canned food. I finally came to the canned food section, which was hell. There were rolling cans all over the place and splattered blood and food covering the floor. I carefully placed my foot down each time as I tried to get around the hazards. I grabbed all the canned food I could take, though my basket was heavy I knew food was important. After I took everything I could hold, I started to head back to our meeting place, when as soon as I turned the corner I smashed straight into a figure. I let out a scream as I swung my weapon towards them as....they did the same? Our weapons clashing. I looked back at the figure, only then noticing who it was.
"F-Faye?"I stammered, at the older shocked girl before me.
Suddenly Echo and Dawn came rushing over, Ender and Scarlette sharply turning the corner on the other side. We were all shocked to see each other, but we didn't have a long happy reunion, for now we had caught all the zombies attention. They were all wearing different clothes, more practical. Faye; a shirt covered with a floral pattern, denim jacket, jeans and running shoes. Scarlette; a thick jacket, striped shirt, jeans and ankle boots. Ender; a black and blue shirt, kahki coat, black pants and combat boots.
Ender looked a me as if I was an idiot, as all of us turned and ran in the same direction. I followed everyone else, weaving through the aisles and dodging all the rotten arms, clawing at us. Ender, Scarlette and Echo ran ahead fighting and clearing the pathway for us. As soon as we reached Myers, Scarlette took a sharp turn towards the perfume section; her back straight to the wall. I almost ran past her, but she quickly grabbed the back of my collar and dragged me back with her. The others did the same, as we watched all the zombies stop and sniff around. I think that all the smashed perfume bottles were making the 'human' smell more faint. We all stayed quiet trying not to make a single sound. Eventually they all turned around and ran off.
"Shit, that was close."sighed Echo as she wiped the sweat off her forehead.
