Lilly's good day turned into a good week. She spent most of that week playing online games and offline games with the intern.
"HA! You suck at mario kart! You should have drifted there and you didn't!" Lilly boasted and teased the older. He laughed and shook his head.
"I was just going easy on you, I let you win." He replied with confidence.
"Hm, that's what the last intern claimed." She smirked at him, his eyes caught hers a moment and he tilted his head a little.
"Is that so?" He asked.
"Yup, before I beat him in black jack and took his money. He never came back after that." Lilly giggled as she replied to the handsome intern. He chuckled and shook his head.
"And how old were you then?" He asked.
"Hm.." She thought for a moment. "Fourteen I think." She grinned and both of them laughed a bit.
"So you truly have been a terror to all the med students." He chuckled. "But why?" He asked, his face shifting to a more serious expression. Lilly didn't like the seriousness of the others, yet something was intimidating yet alluring about the expression Jin held.
"The other med students have never been.. fun.. some weren't even talkative. And they all treated me the same- So there was no point. Why would I want them to tend to me when some of them wouldn't even look at me." Lilly didn't know why she was being so forward, but she continued when Jin rested his hand over hers- He was listening, he was actually listening.
"I'm just a sick kid. That's all they saw me as, they didn't have time to do things, to just talk to me. They sure as hell wouldn't play games like this with me." She kept her eyes lowered, trying not to look at him in fear that she might start to cry. Lilly was alone, she had always been alone. Even with all the nurses and even other patients that she'd talk to.. even with the doctors, she was still always very alone. It was something she couldn't help but to feel, but she never let those feelings out.
She didn't know why she was being so open with this med student, he just... seemed real to her. Not stuffy, not focused on themselves- But he seemed like a genuine person, so she withdrew inwardly again, this time out of fear that he would get bored or find her too emotional."Maybe they had good reasons, maybe they didn't. We can't know what's going on in everyone's head around us. Now, I say we switch it over and play some mortal kombat or something, some fighting game." Jin said, pausing to give her a cheeky smirk. "Unless you're afraid I'll kick your butt in that game too?" He questioned.
"What? Oh please, you so lost the flower cup and now you think you're going to beat me in Mortal Kombat? HA!" Lilly replied with a grin, Jin nodded and got up to switch the games and systems around. He sat back down in the seat beside the bed as Lilly scooted closer to the edge of the bed. The two of them continued to play games, taking breaks here and there. Lilly laughed, she giggled, she had fun. Hanging out with Jin was quickly becoming her favorite thing.
Over the next month this continued, this daily gaming with the 'hot' intern med student. She was happier, even on not so good days. If they couldn't game on her bad days he'd sit with her and read to her, or just talk with her. It was enough for Lilly, she liked how he payed attention to her, she didn't feel alone when he was around. Night time was different of course. When he'd have to go home it was her least favorite time, though during the past month he'd stayed till after dinner. Lilly kept trying to get him to stay later and hang out with him but during the week he couldn't. Weekends were different, weekends were Jin's days off but he had come in a few times to hang out with Lilly.
He himself wasn't so sure why he was doing it but he felt nice when she smiled at him and complimented him. He had grown fond of her and genuinely liked spending time with her, which was rare for Jin, only in recent months had he actually started to like hanging out with people. Namjoon being one friend he was glad he made, and Lilly was... well she was someone he really enjoyed the company of as well, just in a different way.
"Then." Jin laughed "Then she wanted to play something a little more aggressive, so we tried a war game, COD. She was so damn funny on the headset, we took turns cause only one system. But she was so funny, she started trash talking this other dude. He was good but she managed to win. It was too funny, she jumped up and started doing this adorable happy dance. He was a ranked player too, so it was really impressive." Jin boasted about her as he sat with Namjoon at a cafe.
"Wow, that is impressive. So she's still doing okay then?" Namjoon asked as he watched Jin carefully, examining him almost. Jin didn't seem to notice as he swallowed his food and looked at Namjoon. Namjoon was unphased but noticed the sudden change in Jin's eyes.
"She'll never fully be okay. I wish I could help her, heal her from whatever is going on. I think that's the worse part of it. Most days she seems fine, even if she's not feeling great. She's alert and she can hold conversation... but then there's the really bad days.. she seems so helpless, hurt, she's in pain sometimes and I almost can't bare seeing her like that. But she calls for me.. she- I don't know, I just wish I could help her. She'll be twenty in like seven months and I wish she could have the normal experiences like anyone else her age." Jin was starting to trail off. Namjoon nodded slightly, breaking direct eye contact with Jin.
"Is there, some sort of rule against getting too involved with your patients.. or patients of the place you have your residency at? Or is this privately owned place above those kinds of rules?" Namjoon asked, his eyebrow on his left side raising slightly higher than the right.
"What? Uh.. I don't-" Jin looked puzzled, and Namjoon cut him as to not make Jin feel awkward.
"Never mind, hey let's stop at the book store on the way back. Maybe we can find a book or two for her hm?" Namjoon asked. Jin smiled and nodded.
"Yeah, I think she'd like that." He replied. Namjoon grinned and shook his head a little before getting up to leave. He left a heavy tip before he and Jin exited to head to the book store.
