"Are you okay?" she asked. "Yeah," I smiled at her. "I am sorry Jade," I thought to myself. We went back to the party, and headed towards Brian. "What took you so long?" he asked. "Sorry. I got lost and Jade found me," I said. "Is there something you're not telling me," asked Brian. Now, Jade left to dance. I looked in his eyes and said, "No?" "Your eyes say the opposite," he said. I looked around trying to see if Prince Franklin is around. "What are looking at?" he asked. "Nothing. Look, I-I," I tried to say. I don't know if I should tell him or no. What will Franklin do if I tell Brian? Nothing, I hope. "Hey, are you okay?" he asked me as he touched my shoulder. Here goes nothing, "Prince Franklin came to me when I exited the bathroom," I whispered enough for him to only hear. "What?!" he asked, his voice a little high. "Lower you voice, he said I shouldn't tell anyone, but I can't," I said. He seemed to calm down a bit.
We went on with our night but then I was pulled from my hair. "Didn't I tell you not to tell anyone," he asked as he pulled tighter. "I-I didn't tell anyone," I said as I winced in pain when he tugged tighter. "DON'T YOU LIE TO ME, PULIGHT?! I KNOW YOU TOLD HIM," he shouted. The whole ballroom went silent. The Lightstringers were looking at me terrified. I saw Brian from the corner of my eye, clenching and unclenching his jaw. "Pu-Pulight?" asked the queen. "She's not a pulight. She's a Lightstringer like us," said Jade as she stepped out of the crowd. "And what do we have here? A Lightstringer saving a pulight. You do know that she will destroy us, don't you," shouted the Prince. "Even if she destroys us what are going to do? Kill her like you killed Alexander?" asked Brian. Now he was standing beside Jade. Who is Alexander? Was he the first pulight that that pixie talked about?
"Why wouldn't I, Evans? She is our doom. The Lights shall then fall to the one that claims the hall. The world will be dead as soon as they are in red. Care to explain to me that these lines mean? It means, we are all dead," shouted the Prince. "Franklin, that's enough," whispered the queen. "No, it's not enough! I need to kill her before she kills us all," said the Prince as he smiled looking from my horror. "I SAID ENOUGH, FRANKLIN!" shouted the queen. "We'll take her with us and see what we're going to do with her," said the queen. The Prince removed his hands from my hair and tried to drag me. Brian tried to get in between us but I shot him a glare that made him freeze in his place. "Franklin, Franklin. You're an idiot, do you know that," I said, I heard the whole room gasp. "How dare you!" he said. "I am your granddaughter for god's sake. All of this for power, banishing your own son, and trying to kill your granddaughter? I know it's not you. It's her. I know you're capable of love, like you loved your wife," I said.
His eye twitched a bit but then said, "Don't bring her to this. And most certainly, don't bring my aunt into this." I looked at the queen's direction to find her smiling, that devil. "She didn't tell you. Did she?" I asked. "Tell me what?" he shouted. I could see the queen's face, she looked confused. "You thought that the Yolimers were, all of a sudden, existent. Right?" I asked. "What are you talking about? Of course they are existent," he barked back. "Then explain to me how my grandmother is a Yolimer too," I asked. He remained silent. "Your father killed them all. He was scared that he might lose you. You know, he even killed your mother," I said as I saw his eyes widen. "What? You- you said that a Shadow killed them," he said. Now facing the queen. "You seriously believe a pulight over me, your aunt. The one who raised you when your father was out there killing all of these ungrateful creatures," she spat.
"Did you even hear the whole prophecy?" I asked but he kept silently looking at me. "At dusk the light will glow and the shadows will go as one. The Lights shall then fall to the one that claims the hall. The world will be dead as soon as they are in red. All at last in the final blast of the first one. Soon you'll know what it's like to be their foe. Then face the anger of the half Shadows and half lights. Hail to the Pure, who will save us from the lure," I said. Whispers broke through the room. He looked at the queen, "You're- you're the foe," he said. "Well done, pulight!" seethed the queen. "Now, that the cat is out of the bag, I need to kill you," she said. "And you call yourself a queen? What kind of a queen are you? You are no queen to us," I said as I started to advance. With ever step I take, I feel the heat engulf me. "You want me dead. Then let's get it over with," I said.
This time I felt the heat stronger. I kept walking until I was in front of her. Suddenly, she disappeared. "Where are you, queen?" I asked. I turned around and to my horror, I found her floating with her hand on Brian's throat. "Let him down," I warned. "I told you to put him down," I repeated. She only laughed and removed one finger. Brian said seemed to begin to slip. He held her hand that was on his throat. "You know you are no less than a Shadow," I spat. "Darling, I am doing the best to save the world," she said. "THE WORLD?! YOU'RE DOING THIS FOR YOURSELF," I shouted. She laughed again and removed another finger. I need to save Brian. "Leave Brian out of this. Come fight with me, you coward," I said, my voice lingering with venom. "Okay," she said as she removed her hand from his throat. I shouted, "NO!" Then darkness.
"I have never seen anyone do that. Not even the first pulight," said someone. I tried to move, but my body was not moving. I commanded it and demanded, but it won't budge. "Yeah. And you Brian, you were floating." "I don't remember that part but what I do remember is that Alice produced light and dissolved that queen." "What was happening, who was floating and why am I not moving?" these were the questions that roamed my mind. "I am sensing some activity in her head." "So she's conscious?" "I don't know yet." "Well then, what are you waiting for?" I felt hands touch my skin and someone said, "Is she conscious?" "Yes, but she seems to have some complications." "What kind of complications?" "I am trying to figure it out." "Try harder." "Brian calm down. We are all worried about her." "No one is worried as I am." "We are all worried about her." "She's my soul mate Jade! You don't feel what I am feeling!" "She's your soul mate? Oh my god, how did you know?"
"She-," I opened my eyes to abrightly lit, I closed my eyes and tried to adjust to the brightness. I hadthis excruciating pain in the back of my head. "Alice," whispered Jade. "Yeah?"I asked. "Are you okay?" she asked. "Maybe?" "Maybe?" questioned Brian, who wasstanding next to my bed. He tried to touch me but I averted my hand from him."What do you think you're doing?" I asked, "I'm doing nothing!" he exclaimed."You tried to kill me!" I spat. "Kill you?! What? Linda? What happened to her?""Linda do something!" shouted Jade as she sobbed. Linda, beside me started toask me questions. "Who are you?" I asked. "I'm Linda, I just need to ask you afew questions?" "You! You killed my father! Did you try to killme too?" I seethed. "Okay, I'm done with this!" Brian said as he slammed thedoor behind him "Look! I didn't kill your father and Brian didn't try to killyou. You need to calm down."
