After the confrontation with Ronnie, I haven't said a word to Eliza. My jaw is clenched and I grip the steering wheel, turning my knuckles white.
Her eyes are on me as I drive and she can tell that something is bothering me, but she doesn't know how to approach the subject without me trying to bite her head off. She looks at my arm and I think she comes across the needle mark on it.
Shit. I forgot to get someone to check it out. Whatever was in my system could be out of it now."Austin?"
I take my eyes off the road for a moment and look at her. "what?"
"Are you taking drugs?"
Pulling the car to the side of the road. I turn towards her and say. "No, I'm not taking drugs. Why the fuck would you ask a stupid fucken question like that?"
She points at my arm. "Because of that. You can't miss the entrance of a needle. I noticed this a lot after Mom went to the Doctor's to get tested. When you know what you're looking for you can't miss it."
Gritting my teeth I lean towards her. "How did you know to look for it on me? Was it something you're sister said?" Grabbing her chin in my hands I yell. "TELL ME THE FUCKING TRUTH?"
"Yes, it had something to do with what Nina told me." I try to move his hand off my face. "Ouch, you're hurting me."
Dropping my hand from her face. "I'm so sorry, Eliza." Pulling the car onto the road I head in the direction of home.
The car ride back home is quiet as I think about what she told me. it doesn't take too long before we're pulling in front of the house. Before she gets out I say. "Will you marry me? You don't have to give me an answer right away, but I would like one over dinner tonight."
"Okay," she whispers. "Be here at seven for dinner. What are you doing for the rest of the day?"
"I'm going to see an old friend that can help with my situation right now. He's one of the best doctors in this town and I heard that he's able to help with this sort of thing."
Eliza kisses me on the lips, before saying. "Call me when you're finished getting fluid or the drug cleared from your system."
"I will."
Eliza steps out of the car and walks to the trunk. She opens it and pulls out her bags. She walks up to the house and unlocks the door.
Once she's safely inside I drive away. I head in the direction of my friend's place and find him at home with his family.
When he sees my car pull in front he tells his family to get inside. Just for safety. Which is something I can't blame him for. He walks over to the car and looks at me. "What are you doing here, Austin?"
"I need your help."
He takes my face in his hands, looking into my eyes and he notices something in them. "What are you on?"
"I don't know, Jerry. That's why I'm here. Yesterday I was injected with something. I need your help."
Jerry looks at the house. "We're not doing this at my place. I'll get what I need and we'll drive to the lake house I own. It's about a twenty-minute drive from here."
"Okay," I move my face from his hand. "Thanks for helping me out, Jerry. I have a girl back home waiting for me."
A smile spreads across his face. "That's great news, Austin. I hope it isn't someone we know."
"I don't want to talk about her. I should keep her a secret. Especially, from someone like you." I joke.
He rolls his eyes. "I'll be right back." Jerry walks to the house and says something to his wife. He returns a couple of minutes later, with a bag. "Get out of the driver's seat. I'll drive."
