October

The last couple of weeks have been good without Clara in the office. The partners are going to have another meeting with her today and decide if there's a position still available for her.

Honestly, I hope there's nothing left for her to do here. She's a wreck to be working with and deserves to be disbarred for doing something she shouldn't. She lied and committed sabotage. She tried to ruin my career and get off scot-free for it.

Picking up my latest case I go through it. Top to bottom, trying to see if anything has been missed by the police or coroners office.

When I go through these things I like to find ways to twist the witnesses words and make them sweat under the pressure of my questioning.

Clara walks into my office and she pulls the chair out. She sits and looks at me. "Hello, Austin. How are things going?"

Looking up from the file I look at the woman that I can't stand in the office. "Clara. This is the best you have on small talk?" She doesn't say anything. So, I continue. "The office has been quiet without you and I was liking. I'm just hoping that you don't come back. Being disbarred is one thing you deserve."

"That's rude, you know if you didn't bring that fiancé of yours into our lives no one would be her puppet. There's more than one person in this office that has attachments to Casey. You should be careful." She stands up and walks out of my office.

Does Casey have more than one person in her pockets that work for my company?

After I showed Casey the pictures I left the house and I'm spending time at Jerry's property in the bush.

It's been great not being around her. Until she's ready to talk in giving her some space.

Buzz, buzz.

Looking at my phone I see "Casey" flash across the screen and I answer it.

Me: Hello, Casey. What do you want?

Casey: I want you to come home. We need to talk.

Me: Are you sure?

Casey: Yes, I wouldn't be calling if I wasn't sure. I was surprised that you brought that folder out and the picture of my twin. It's been a long time since I've seen an article.

Me: I'm sorry about your sister. I'll be home later tonight.

Casey: Okay, bye, Austin.

Me: Bye,

Hanging up the phone I go back to the file sitting in front of me.

After a couple of hours, I stand up and walk out of my office. Heading down the hall I head to the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee.

While I wait for the water to boil the door opens and Clara steps inside. She has a shit-eating grin on her face. "Looks like your wish didn't come true. I'm allowed back to work, but I'm on probation. If I break any rules they're going to terminate me. How does that sound to you?"

"You don't matter to me, Clara. Welcome back, but don't think we'll ever be friends. Since you lost the promotion no one else has been offered it and even if they did it for me I'd turn it down as I'd rather not do it." Once the water is boiled I make my coffee and then head back to the office.

When I get to my room I see Casey sitting in my chair and she's looking over the city. She spins the chair around and comes face to face with me. "Do you mind if I hang out here until you're ready to go home? I don't want to be apart from you for another moment."
