January

Casey pours me a coffee before she makes herself a glass of freshly squeezed orange juice. She sits across from me. "Don't forget about the ultrasound appointment today, Austin. I don't want to do this alone again."

Taking her hand in mine I kiss it and look into her brown eyes. Making her see how sincere I am about the words that are about to come out of my mouth. "I'll be there. I set a timer to go off half an hour before the appointment. I'm going to walk the two blocks to the hospital."

A smile spreads across her face. "Sounds good. You know I can't wait to see the baby."

Me too.

"Casey, are you sure that you don't want to know the gender of the baby?" I ask for the hundredth time since I learnt that she was pregnant with my child. "I want to know what we're expecting. That way I can design the room for the baby."

"Austin, the only thing I want as a surprise is the gender of our child. The baby is going to be loved by us both. So, why not leave it alone and get a surprise. Just like they did in the early days."

I could buy an outfit for either gender and then put the one that the child isn't a way for the next one. I want to have more than one child. I haven't set how many children I want yet, but I'm sure once this one is born I'll have a number in my head.

"Okay, whatever you want, baby. I'll be fine with it." I finish my coffee and take the mug over to the sink and wash it. I put it in the dishrack. "See you at 11 am." I kiss her lips before grabbing my briefcase and walking out the door.

Climbing into the car I head in the direction of my office.

When I enter the office I'm greeted by everyone including the partners. Georgia one of the partners from a rival firm is sitting in my office with a case file in her hands. "Hey, Austin. I need your help."

"Georgia, what kind of help can I be for you?" I ask, kind of rudely. "You seem to do well on your own."

She slides the file over to me. "I can't win this one. That's why I came to you. you're one of the best lawyers in the city and I wouldn't go elsewhere for someone to win this case. Have a look at it and let me know what you think. I'll hear from you soon." with that she stands up and walks out of the office.

I watch her retreating. Trying to figure out why this case seems to be important for her. I've never seen her care about a client before.

Opening the file I see that it's her case. She's being investigated for evidence tampering.

That's a serious offence. How am I going to prove her innocence when I know that it's something I've done a couple of times to protect a client.

I never said that I was the best person when it comes to being a lawyer. I do things that I think is right for my clients, damning the consequences that may arise from what I've done.

This case takes up most of my morning and before I know it the alarm is going off. Telling me that I need to go to the hospital.

As soon as I get to the main entrance I see Casey standing in front of the door. She has her arms folded and a smile spreads across her face. "I'm glad you decided to join us, Austin. I was wondering if you'd be standing me up for the second time."

"Baby, you know my job is important to me. If I wasn't working as hard as I do you wouldn't have all the nice things you have. What do you do with all the money you make from modelling?"

She scowls at me before saying. "That's a rude thing to ask me, Austin. The money I make is my business, not yours." Casey enters the hospital and rushes over to the sign-in desk. When I stand behind her she says. "I'm Casey Jackson. I have an appointment with Doctor Reeves."

The nurse behind the desk tells her to take a seat and we do. While we're waiting for the doctor I see a woman with black hair and blue eyes walked out of the woman's restroom. She looks familiar.

Standing up I move towards the woman and see that it's Eliza.

Fuck, she's still as beautiful as ever.

She grabs her sister and pushes her in front of her. Eliza whispers something to her sister and they have a hush conversation.

Looking at her again I say. "Hey, Eliza. What are you doing here?"

She peaks out from behind her sister and says. "I came here for my sister's ultrasound. I'm being the supportive sister I've been my entire life."

I know she's supportive of her family. Which that has a downfall on her at time. Like her siblings lying about her and stirring up trouble. Things that Eliza doesn't deserve. I don't deserve her.

Having her stand in front of me right now is just a reminder about how much I have fucked my life away. I turn towards Casey and say. "That's my fiance over there. You should meet her. I'm sure the two of you have more in common than you think."

She flinches as I say. "We will never have much in common, Austin. Except for the fact that we fucked an asshole like you." she doesn't hold anything back on what she thinks about me. "I'm glad you left, Austin. It made me wake up and realise that not everyone seems to be who they make themselves out to be. You used me for your entertainment. You shattered me and broke all the confidence I once had."

Kat wraps her arms around her sister, protecting her from me. "Let him know everything you feel, sis. Let it out and then we can go home and eat ice cream. Stuff our faces with the chocolate goodness."

"I'm so..." she cuts me off.

"Austin, I don't want a fucking apology from you. The words you have to say will be wasted words and I don't want to hear it. The only thing I hope is that I don't run into you again in this city."

Casey walks over to us at that moment and looks at Eliza. She has a scowl on her face. "What the fuck, Austin. What's this bitch doing here?"

Eliza snorts. "I'd rather be a bitch than a whore, who lies on her back with her legs spread open for anyone who wants to penetrate her." She turns her attention back to me. "Thank you, Austin."

"What are you thanking me for, Eliza?"

"Making me realise that life is much better without being with someone who uses you. Now, I get to be with someone that's going to love me for the person I am and not for who I used to be. Used to represent. I'm your past, Austin. I'll never be the future for you. Enjoy your life." She grabs her sisters hand and pulls her away.
