"Connie?" The borrower suddenly heard her name being called and, after fixing her dress and hair, she walked towards the exit of her shelter. Taylor put down her backpack and sat on the edge of the mattress looking anxiously at the floor. It had been only a week since she had met Connie. They weren't close friends yet, but they were working on it.
The borrower took some courage and walked out towards the human's bed. She peered over the nightstand that was next to the bed. It wasn't that she didn't trust Taylor, but she still found it hard to reach her without being a little scared.
When Taylor noticed her, she smiled a little and started biting her lip nervously. "I just wanted to know how you were doing and ... I brought you a cookie," she said and immediately Connie's eyes lit up at the sight of the chocolate cookie. She loved those cookies, ever since she had first eaten them.
She came closer, guided more by her stomach than by her head, and she found herself near the human's shoe who widened her smile and squatted down, bringing the cookie to her. Connie took the cookie the size of her and staggered backward. Taylor giggled at the scene, getting a glare from the borrower who sat up and ate the cookie.
"Mh... I know it's a strange request, but I was wondering-" the human began to gibber receiving the attention of Connie who raised her face to look at her. Taylor straightened her hair and looked back at her.
"Can I touch you?" she asked embarrassed and Connie's eyes widened surprised by her request. "W-Why?" she asked confused about the request, looking at her from below.
"Nothing bad, of course" she replied immediately to reassure her. "I can't explain why, I would just like to touch you. You can trust me, I promise, and you can say no" she said and the borrower looked at her for a moment before lowering her head thinking about it.
Why saying no? Taylor had never forced her to do anything, she seemed kind enough to trust her. Yes, she trusted her.
"Okay," she said, even if a little hesitant, and stood up running a hand on her arm, slightly anxious about this thing. Taylor held her breath for a moment before putting her hand close to the borrower. Connie jumped slightly at the sight of the giant hand approaching her and she lowered her head freezing and trembling slightly from her fear.
"Hey ... if you don't want to do it, I won't force you. I understand how difficult it is for you" Taylor reassured her and Connie opened one eye noticing her hand moving away from her. Connie sighed before looking up at her again.
"N-no, just do it a little at a time," she told her and Taylor nodded realizing that she had to take it very slowly. This time, she was more cautious and she only reached one finger. The human held it in front of the borrower, who felt less stressed.
Connie looked at her before approaching and touching the finger with both of her hands. Taylor's eyes widened, surprised by her light touch.
"Wow your fingers are so small" she commented amazed by the sight and she touched Connie's fingers with the thumb. Connie lowered her head shyly, her face completely red. It was strange being touched by a human.
"Can I touch your hair?" Taylor asked, curious to know how it would feel like. It was something new for both of them. Connie became even redder and nodded, keeping her head low then feeling a slight pressure on it. Taylor smiled lightly stroking her hair.
"Now can I .. uhm .. take you on the bed?" she asked brushing her body with her fingers as if to grab her and Connie jerked back. Did she want to take her in her hands? Was she going to hurt her?
Taylor's eyes widened in surprise at her reaction and quickly pulled her hand away, scaring the borrower even more. Connie became paranoid enough to keep backing away. At that moment, she looked at the human from below, finding her even more giant than before. What the hell had gone into her head? Trust a human? Letting a human touch her?
"Connie..." Taylor called her, feeling confused and sorry for scaring her. The borrower jumped and ran behind the nightstand. She slumped against the wood trembling in fear and felt some of her tears burn her eyes.
"Connie I am so sorry. I didn't want to scare you" she heard the apology from the girl. Taylor felt tremendously guilty for what she had done. The human looked at the nightstand where Connie was hiding for a long time, hoping to see the borrower appear. But when she saw nothing she looked down and stood up.
"I'm going to take a shower and then I think I'll go to sleep" she murmured knowing she couldn't receive any response. As she locked herself in the bathroom, Connie went back to her room letting herself fall back on the bed and hug her pillow. She tried to fall asleep, and to convince herself that she would never be seen by any humans again, but she couldn't sleep. After all, Taylor didn't do anything, why had she reacted like that? Maybe she was too scared to do that big step.
Taylor washed and dressed in pajamas before returning to the room. She turned off the light and slumped over the mattress with a sigh. She let out a few tears thinking about the fact that she had ruined everything. Connie would never trust her again.
After an hour or so, the human was still wide awake in her bed, thinking about what she did and feeling deeply guilty.
"T-Taylor?" She heard a faint whisper but as soon as she recognized it she turned and looked at the floor. Connie stood in front of the bed looking up at her, running a hand over her arm.
"I'm sorry about earlier... I don't know what came over me, I was afraid for nothing" she tried to apologize and Taylor shook her head. "You don't have to apologize, it's not your fault, it's okay to be afraid" Taylor answered in a whisper, looking at her with a small smile. Connie blushed violently and then raised her arms to her.
"I think I can do it now," she said looking at her from below as if she were a child who wants to be taken in her arms. Taylor raised her eyebrows and understood that Connie wanted her to pick her up. She smiled and slowly brought her right hand to the borrower who waited to be grabbed, but it didn't happen.
She frowned and saw that Taylor held her hand in front of her, palm up. "Hop on" Taylor enticed her and Connie hesitantly approached. She climbed onto her palm trying not to fall and staggered. She held onto her fingers and when Taylor was sure she was balanced, she lifted her hand and brought it to her chest. Connie found herself close to the human's face for the first time and she looked at her blue irises. She slipped out of her palm and fell forward muttering some complaints.
"So, now you trust me?" Taylor asked her and Connie looked up. She started walking closer to the human's face and she was now standing right in front of it.
"Only if I can touch you too" she smiled angelically and Taylor smiled slightly nodding in response. Connie walked over and placed a hand on the tip of her nose. Connie could feel her warm breath ruffle her hair and she smiled as she began to walk across her chest to the side of her face. Somehow she hugged her cheek and Taylor put a hand behind her to prevent her from falling, also to hug her back.
They remained like this for an indefinite time, as if everything around them had stopped.
