It all began when Sam could no longer bear the loud music that the human kept playing throughout the day. The borrower couldn't sleep as she had to rest during the day to be able to borrow at night when everyone was asleep.

She hadn't been able to sleep for days, and due to the stress she was building up she decided to do something she would never have imagined. She climbed up one of the shelves in Rachel's room and noticed the girl lying on her bed holding the phone she used to change music.

"Do you want to become deaf too?!" Sam snapped out of nowhere and her voice startled Rachel, who quickly sat up and frowned. She hadn't heard the door open and she certainly didn't recognize that voice. She was about to let it go, believing it was a figment of her imagination.

"I'm telling you, turn down this horrible music, you're making the walls shake too!" at that point the human was sure someone was talking to her. But she didn't understand why her voice didn't seem to come from anyone, only from somewhere in her room. She decided to turn the volume down to better understand who or what it was.

Sam wasn't too worried about being seen, as Rachel had lost her sight. She felt bad for her, but it made her borrowing much easier.

"Who's there?" Rachel asked hesitantly as the borrower realized she had been exposed. Well, she didn't really care at that moment.

"Santa Claus" she replied with irritation in her voice, she hated that human more and more. Rachel frowned and slowly got out of bed and stood up. She could have sworn she heard her voice coming from the shelf. Sam's eyes widened and she backed away for a moment fearing Rachel might try to touch her.

"You're real?" the girl asked confused, hoping to hear her voice again and understand who she belonged to. "Of course not! I'm just ... a voice in your head," Sam replied before taking advantage of the nearby curtain and going down to the window.

"Are you serious?" Rachel asked even more confused. Was she going crazy?

The borrower walked over to the nightstand next to the socket that Sam would use to leave.

"Oh yeah, you're going to become completely crazy as far as I know," she said, and immediately cursed herself when she noticed Rachel turning to her in surprise. "And why can I only hear you now?" she asked, trying to answer her questions.

The borrower decided to move away, as the human seemed to be intent on approaching the nightstand. Sam hid in the bookcase as soon as she made it across the bed. Having grown up inside dangerous walls, she was quite agile and quick to move around.

"Because you're blind now, and you know how that stuff of increasing the other senses because of the loss of one, right? I'm an extra" Sam said as if nothing was wrong, sitting down and leaning against the wooden wall. She watched how the human started to believe those words since the voice kept moving and she heard no one walking.

"Great. Now I'm even weirder because I talk to myself," Rachel sighed as she sat back down on the bed and looked down. Sam could have turned on her heels and walked away as if nothing had happened, but the dramatic attitude of the human bothered her too much.

"Weird? Should I feel offended?" she asked rhetorically, getting a small wry smile from the girl. "I'm just sorry you have to talk to me," Rachel admitted, her smile growing sadder. Sam rolled her eyes.
