"Did you see the news? Imskar stopped another alien attack last night during a press conference!" Maeve dragged her friend into her office, she couldn't help her enthusiasm.

Aurora gave her a small smile, nervously adjusting her glasses and just nodding.

"They had weapons I have never seen before," Maeve continued, as the two girls sat down on the sofa and placed takeout bags on the small table in front of them.

Aurora had stopped by to have lunch with her friend; it had become a common event lately, given how much busier Maeve had gotten because of her job. She would lock herself in the laboratory and forget to eat, which Aurora would constantly scold her for.

Maeve started rambling about how amazing it was to see footage of the superhero fighting aliens and then started wondering what the new weapons were made of. Aurora loved seeing her getting so passionate; she watched as her friend already had her phone in her hands, trying to zoom into the pictures from the evening prior and making hypotheses on how they were constructed.

You could tell that Maeve was more of a talker, while Aurora was a listener, which was perfect.

"After so many years, nobody knows where Imskar is from. Wouldn't it be so cool to study her DNA and figure out how she can change size?"

Maeve recovered the burger that her friend had brought her. She took a bite and looked to her side, expecting an answer.

"Oh- yeah! But maybe information like that could be dangerous in the wrong hands," Aurora justified, hiding her face in her own burger.

Maeve thought about it and sighed heavily. "I guess you are right... I just wish I could ask her questions, I have been close to aliens before, but none of them ever had powers like those!" Right when Aurora thought she had busted Maeve's bubble, her friend went right back to her ramble.

The previous evening the aliens didn't want to attack the conference itself; they planned to lure the hero into a trap. Aurora had saved the day, however, she had been hit in full by one of those weapons. She barely managed to sleep through the night, her whole body was in pain and even that morning she felt sore everywhere. It had been a miracle for her to get up for work without collapsing midway.

The only thing that kept her going was having lunch with Maeve. It was the one moment of her day where she could enjoy being normal and she didn't have to think about saving the world.

Of course, this counted until Maeve would start expressing her thoughts on the hero. Sometimes it was downright frustrating and demoralizing when they spent more time talking about Imskar than anything else.

"Aurora?"

The hero woke up from her thoughts and raised her head, turning to face her friend. She had gone into autopilot while eating her burger and her thoughts had gotten loud enough that she forgot to listen to what Maeve was talking about.

"Are you okay? You've been staring at that burger for five minutes as if you were sorry to eat it," Maeve joked, and Aurora had gotten back to her senses enough to chuckle.
