The snow fell slowly and settled on the ground, covered by the white mantle. It had just begun to snow and a few inches had already settled. Mia knew that if she didn't find a place to stay she would freeze to death.

The borrower walked around, tightening her arms around her and chattering her teeth in the cold. She just wanted some warmth at that moment, she couldn't take it anymore. Mia was also tired from the walk she had been doing for hours towards an unknown destination.

After being spotted in her previous home, she immediately packed all her belongings and ran from that house. She couldn't stay, humans were cruel and she didn't want to be trapped or killed.

When she got exhausted, Mia collapsed to the ground sinking slightly into the snow.

Erika was coming home after shopping. It was Christmas time and she had bought gifts for everyone, she just had to send them by the 24th of that month. As soon as she saw the beautiful landscape covered in snow, she smiled.

As she walked, leaving footprints in the snow, she noticed smaller ones going towards her left. A little confused and curious to see which animal had left those footprints, she followed them for a while. When the footprints stopped and she saw something on the ground, she frowned in confusion.

She walked over and squatted down looking at what looked like a... doll? With one hand she pushed the snow away and took the doll in her hands. Erika quickly realized that the doll was done very well.

Suddenly, the toy shivered. She widened her eyes in surprise, almost dropping her seeing her moving. Erika immediately understood that the little girl in her hands was alive and breathing. The human thought that she had probably passed out on the ground as she walked.

Erika could feel how cold her body was, and she noticed her purple lips. The girl had long black hair and was dressed in homemade clothes. Erika felt her heart sink at the thought of her walking alone in the streets. She had to take her to a warm place or she would have died of hypothermia. "It's okay little one, I will warm you up" she whispered, more to herself than the borrower.

She tucked her gently into her coat pocket to warm her up a bit, took the bags back, and started to go home. She walked slowly to not move the borrower too much as she still held her encircled in her fingers to make sure she didn't fall out of her pocket.

She felt how Mia unconsciously hugged her finger, seeking the warmth of her hand. It was weird to feel the little girl move slightly in her hand, but she didn't have time for that. Erika just hoped to make it in time, she was starting to get worried.

As she entered her house, Erika put down the bags and she took the frozen body in her hands. The borrower was still shivering badly, getting as close as she could to Erika's thumb. Erika walked over to the burning fireplace; luckily the house was empty for now.

She sat on the armchair in front of the fire, holding the girl to her chest, surrounding her with one hand to warm her as much as possible. She watched her sleep, stroking her snow-soaked hair, hoping she will be okay.

Mia finally felt some warmth envelop her and something slowly caressing her hair. Was she in heaven? Did heaven smell like strawberries and was soft?

She slowly opened her eyes and in front of her, she saw the fire, the source of heat she was feeling. When Mia could see the outlines of the figures around her, she looked around in confusion noticing a huge room. When she looked to her right she became even whiter than she already was.
