I awoke with the sun dazzling over my naked and sweaty skin. The space next to me was empty, indicating Chase was already awake and more than likely over at Gabriel's house.
I arose from the bed and padded my way into the bathroom, taking a much needed warm shower.
~~~
As I wiped the remaining water off my body I had a constant urge to return back to my house and take my suit. Chase wouldn't be back home in hours and I had more than enough time to take it and go.
I quietly walked downstairs, careful not to wake up Am. It was still early in the morning and everyone was asleep. The people guarding the border would be heading in for breakfast so now was my chance.
I grabbed Chase's keys that were lying on the counter and quickly left the house, starting up the car and driving off.
Chase's house left my view and I felt my guards go up, not liking leaving our only safe place. The woods seemed cold and dangerous now that I really studied them and been drug around in then enough. Memories swamped my brain and I had to squeeze my eyes shut to did then. I decided to put my attention on the thought of Chase and love making last night.
Within minutes I could see my house up in the distance. Sitting on top of the hill, the shingles hanging on by old nails. I put the car in park as I studied my house. It looked unkempt and abandoned. Just like I had felt when my parents left without warning.
I stepped out of Chase's car and grabbed his football hoodie that was lying in the back seat. School then had just crossed my mind and I laughed at the fact at ever returning. It felt impossible to actually see myself walking the halls of highs hoop with all the clichés.
My door handle was a little rusty from the cold weather and snow we had gotten while I was being held in a cellar. It seemed now that I noticed everything misplaced around my house. There was a crack on the window in the middle of my door and as I looked closer I saw a tint of blood. The furniture was still lying around the room from the last time we came, yet I didn't feel like touching anything. As if I kept everything where it was at I'd get answers.
I walked in my kitchen and grabbed a knife from the cabinet, tucking it in my back pocket, "Come after me now, bastard." I mumbled to myself.
I swiftly maneuvered around my house to get back into the living room where the hidden door was at. The fireplaces brick was lying on the ground, meaning someone had been here after Chase, Lola, and I. I pulled the fireplace back swinging it open and grabbing the door handle, opening it and walking in.
The basement was cold and smelt of fresh blood. I grabbed a flashlight from our tool box that my dad always kept around our old TV that we never watched. The flashlight lite up the staircase but not all the way down. The boards creaked under my feet causing me to cringe as I made my way down. It was almost comical how I looked tip-toeing down the staircase with my flashlight dangling around my wrist.
Reaching the end I took a deep breath and walked the rest of the way towards the wardrobe. It looked exactly like we left it, but there was a pair of plies lying on the floor along with a few scratches around the knob of the wardrobe. A line of blood, I noticed, trailed from the end of the stairs to the pliers on the floor. Whoever was down here trying to open the wardrobe was obviously interrupted.
I kicked the pliers aside and looked behind my back-listening-to make sure no one was coming down the stairs to interrupt me. I grabbed the knife in my back pocket drew a line across my palm, squeezing the blood onto the door. It made a creaking noise like before and opened. My uniform was still hanging inside, untouched. It hung from the wall and was neatly straightened, having no sign of being worn. I drew it from it's hangers on the wall carefully and held it in my hands for the first time. It felt warm against my hands and the fabric, I recognized, was silk.
A noise brought me from my thoughts. Clank. I quickly shoved my uniform in a bag that was lying on the ground and rushed to hide behind the wall, hiding from the intruder. A shadowy figure emerged from down the steps and then another and then another. I knew they were men due to the size of their shadow on the wall.
I gasped when I saw them, they weren't human, a vampire, or a werewolf. Yet something completely demonic. Their skin was a blood red and their blue veins were protruding against their pasty skin. The one at the front had a cloak on like the others but was much bigger and had red eyes. Unlike the others who were small and bony with yellow eyes.
The one at the front spoke, "She held it in here," his voice was scartchy, "You will destroy this room, I want no signs of remaints." He turned, his cloak lifting up behind him and leaving a trail of black smoke. He climbed the stairs quickly, leaving without a sound.
The two demons looked at each other and made a throaty sound.
I panicked when I saw a match in ones hand and a bottle of whiskey in the others hand. I didn't want my house burnt down, it held all of my good memories. And I needed to protect...for me and my parents.
So I did what I thought would end it. And threw the kitchen knife at the nearest demon.
