I watched Lola with my arms crossed and set face. The idea of her helping us did not make me happy, but according to Chase she's the only one who will get the job done.
Lola began murmuring things in Italian, as soon as she stepped foot inside my house she said it was heavily filled with Italian spirits. I huffed at her statement and Chase gave me a look that said, not now.
Chase stood beside her know and was watching her intently, he began murmuring to himself in English, he was translating what Lola was saying. I walked up next to him and listened intently to him, to try and catch what the hell was going on.
"If there shall be a soul here now, leave us and return once we're finished." Chase stopped at the same time Lola did.
"Well, no evil spirit here. You're free to go down there, but I am awfully curious to what might be in this cellar or library." Lola said looking at Chase hopefully.
Chase looked down at her and merely shrugged his shoulders.
"Uhm...I would rather you actually stay up here. And that's it? You mumble a few things in Italian and we're suddenly safe to go down there?"
"Annora." Chase warned.
I ignored his look and looked towards Lola, expecting an answer. She merely smirked at me, "Dear. I'm a wanderer between dimensions. I saw every soul that was lingering in this house, the evil ones left-"
"In exchange for what? They can't just leave us unless they want something." I interrupted, earning another disapproving look from Chase.
Lola laughed, "Some are more convincing then you think."
Not knowing what to reply I crossed my arms and stared at the wooden door.
Chase shook his head and ran a hand down his face, "Okay. Shall we?" He asked gesturing towards the door.
Lola giggled like a little school girl and clapped her hands together, "We shall!"
Chase grabbed the knob and gave a little pull, it instantly opened, "Yeah...I think your mother was lying to you."
I looked up at Chase, "Why would she do such a thing?"
Chase wrapped and arm around my shoulder and pulled me to his side, "She-"
"She had good reason to," Lola cut him off, she was already walking down the steps in the cellar, "This place was filled with evil...and death. You see those words engraved in the wall right there?" She pointed to a picture hanging on the wall of a family of all girls. It was an old picture and the paper seemed to be rotting, "Those are not good symbols." Lola shook her head but continued down the stairs until we couldn't see her anymore.
Chase had a hard, unreadable look on his face, "Maybe you should stay up here. Lola and I can't get hurt by evil spirits, but I can't say the same for humans."
"Can't you get hurt though? I mean I can see why a wanderer can't get hurt but a werewolf?" I asked.
"My mother used protection spells on me while I was born from unwanted souls. I'll be fine."
I wiped at my eyes that were teary, "Chase-"
"She'll be fine, Alpha Chase. Her mother put protection spells on her also." Lola said, appearing from the bottom of the stairs with a lantern.
"How are you so sure?" Chase asked, not looking away from me.
"Her aurora. That mother of yours Annora really wanted you to be safe. Your mother must have been a powerful witch." Lola said, looking up at us.
"My mom's not a witch. Wouldn't that make me one then?"
Lola shook her head, "Unless your father was a warlock but I get the sense your mother wanted to protect you and your father. Your father was human, just like you. Now will you two please get down here?"
Chase nodded his head and grabbed a hold of my hand, "I'll be right here." He said as he caught the frightened look on my face.
I nodded and looked down at Lola who had her back turned to us.
"This picture here must be your parents and you." Lola said once we were inside the cellar.
It was eerily cold down here, the walls were covered in bookshelves that touched the ceiling and there were many old pictures hanging on the wall. Pictures I didn't recognize.
I took the picture from Lola, "Yes. That's them. I remember taking this picture, I was only 10."
Lola nodded and began searching the books, "That must be when your mother started taking precautions with you and your father. That picture is full with protection spells."
"Why would she do it on a picture and not us?" I asked as I stared down at the picture.
"She wanted you and your father to be unknown to the evil spirits. The protection spell she used had a voodoo affect. She used it on the picture and it transferred to you." Lola smiled in admiration, "I sure wish I knew how she did it. It's not in the spell books."
Chase appeared next to me and covered my shaking hand with his, "Are you alright?"
I nodded my head, "It's just a lot to take in..." I whispered.
Chase draped his jacket over my shoulders and took the picture from my hands, placing it on a nearby desk that was piled with books.
"Oh my gosh! There it is! My story book." I said as I picked up the book from the table. Dust flew from it when I opened the cover.
Lola gasped, "Chase does that girl seem familiar to you?"
Chase looked down at the picture in my story book, "Holy shi-"
"Don't finish that sentence young man." Lola scolded.
I gave them both an odd look, "Who is it? Chase, do you know her?"
Chase took in a breath and looked at me, "Annora, babe. That's you."
