I blew out a big breath as I walked out of the schools door. Finally, class is over and I can now go home.
Tightening my hold on my back pack straps I began to walk down the side-walk. Unfortunately, my family isn't able to afford me a vehicle. I don't complain about it much because my parents do so much for me out of what they have. Having a vehicle for myself would be selfish.
But now, I dreaded not having one and walking home. The storm clouds have opened up and it's now sprinkling rain drops on me. And to make it worse, it's getting very dark. AND I feel a pair of eyes on me. I shiver, but not in the pleasant way.
Looking over my shoulder I catch a glimpse of a dark shadow, disappearing behind a tree. Okay. This isn't good. Maybe I can lose them.
I quickened my pace and looked over my shoulder again. The figure jumped behind the tree again. Taking my chance I run off the sidewalk and into the woods, following a walking trail. Hoping he lost sight of me after hiding.
Keeping my quick pace I easily duked under trees and dodged fallen ones. A cold shiver ran down my back. The figure is back, and this time when i turn around it's at least 6 feet away from me. A scream escapes my lips and I take off in a sprint. Heavy footsteps follow me;causing me to cry out in frustration.
Knock him off course. Take a quick right around the tree.
I dodge right quickly and jumped over a stump. The heavy footsteps slow in confusion. Dodging another tree I find myself running back on the trail. I cried out again as something caught my back pack. Don't turn around. Unhooking my arms from the straps I let the bag fall from my shoulders. The weight of my bag caused the figure to drop it and stop his running. He let out a faint groan and began in my direction again.
Crying out again in frustration I keep going, dodging trees, jumping. My face is stinging from the cold air and rain. I touch my cheeks and feel a thick liquid. Retracting my bloody hand. Thorns of plants hitting me everywhere I turn.
From the corner of my eye I see lights from our town. Only about 100 yards away. Smiling to myself I dodged and ran towards its direction. I heard a chuckle come from behind me. Like right behind me.
And of course now I have to make the most stupidest decision of my life. I turned and look. As I did, my foot caught on a root and I tumble to the ground. Crying out in pain I clutch my injured ankle. The dark figure lingered over my body. I could see the faint outline of a smirk coming out from underneath his black cloak.
This is a game to him. He must do this often. He's experienced.
Just when he reached out his hand a long piercing howl came from above the hill behind me. 10 yards away, maybe.
Thinking it's just a lone coyote I remain shaking on the ground under the tall figure. It affected him more than it did me. His hand froze and he looked up over my head. He took a surrendering pose and began whispering Latin words.
Something was scaring him if he was praying. Great. Now I got two creatures after me.
Keeping in my fetal position the dark figure hissed; a long, scratchy noise. He turned his cloak around to cover him then disappeared.
Letting out a relieved breath I sat up, wincing at the pain in my ankle. Hearing a crunch behind me, I froze. How could I forget there is something behind me?
Slowly, I turn around to face the creature. My eyes meet a pair of coal ones, with two fury ears and a big body.
Werewolf.
I sigh again and fall on my back. A protector had saved me.
The werewolf looked up at me as if smiling and I felt a sensation run down my spine. Making me feel warm and safe. The wolf nudged my ankle and I winced, grabbing onto its paw; that is bigger than my head. The wolf ignored me and began to kick my ankle, it suddenly felt better. Weird.
The werewolf sat back and stared at me again. He nodded his head as if telling me to go on. Standing up, I brushed the earth off my clothes. The wolf began walking towards me. Taking a cautious step back made him finally stop. We had another staring contest, making me blush for some reason till he finally moved again. Turning to where his side was facing me.
He threw his head back motioning to his back. Then, nudged my leg, making me tumbled towards him.
Oh.
I carefully grabbed onto his fur and hoisted myself up onto his back.
I ran my hand up and down his black fur as he began to walk. I have always been fascinated with these creatures and now I'm riding one. Giddy rose up in me and I reached to touch his ears. As I came into contact he froze for a second. I retracted my hand quickly thing he didn't like it but smiled when he whined and licked my hand.
I giggled, "I guess you like being pet behind the ears, huh?"
The wolf shrugged causing me to giggle again. I yawned an annoying sound. Causing his ears to perk back.
I laugh and laid my head between his shoulder blades, "I'm just a little tired-"
Darkness.
