I awoke to the sound of someone talking...again. Except for this time it wasn't outside the door it was inside the room I was sleeping in.
I cold chill spread across the room and touched my bare leg that was dangling off the bed. Gosh, I bet I look very attractive right now.
I opened my eyes slowly and turned on my side towards the big windows in the room.
My breath was taken away as I saw Chase looking out the window talking on the phone. Light snow littered the woods surrounding the house.
Chase was intensely looking outside, oblivious to my waken state.
I took the chance to finally get a good look of him. He was tall standing at about 6'4 his body was lean, his shoulders broad. You could visibly see the contour of his muscles stretching his black tee.His brown hair was sticking up, looking as if he ran his fingers through it constantly. His hard, chiseled jaw was set as the snow lightened his face up. He looked bigger than I remember.
"Chase?" I whispered.
Chase shut his phone quickly and was at my side in the blink of an eye, "Are you okay? Does it hurt? Are you hurt?"
My heart warmed at his concern for me and I smiled, "I'm fine. But I feel dirty."
Chase chuckled and tucked me back in the bed, "You can take a shower once you're healed."
I snorted, "When will that be? 8 weeks?"
Chase shrugged and moved to get up, "I'll go get you some hot chocolate."
I grabbed his arm as he began to walk off, "Wait."
Tingles ran through my hand where I touched him and the look on Chase's face showed that he felt it too, "Woah. What was that?"
Chase held a straight face, "Nothing."
I nodded at him unsurely, "Yeah, okay. Uhm- why am I here?"
There I asked it. The question I was dying to know the answer of.
Chase gripped his hands together and finally locked eyes with me, "You're special Annora. You'll see that one day. And...I have this strong urge to protect you."
I furrowed my eyebrows together, "Urge? What do you mean?"
Chase shrugged, "I'll tell you one day. Don't worry about it." His face went blank for a second then he turned to me, "I gotta go. Don't go anywhere." And with that, he was out of the room and sprinting down the stairs.
I sighed, what am I supposed to do in here?
After a minute or two of sitting in silence I heard the clattering of pots and pans coming from down stairs. Surely he won't get mad of I walk around the house?
Slowly stepping out of the bed I shivered when my foot came in contact with the cold wooded floor. Huffing I pushed myself out of the bed and made my way to the door. My ribs still ache as does my arm, but I push it in the far corner of my mind and grip the door knob.
I sudden feeling came to mind. Chase will be mad. Should I be doing this?
Arguing with myself I decided that I would go out and explore, it's not like he can make me stay here.
Turning the door knob I opened the door, letting a gush if pine hit me. Smelling in the sweet smell I peeked my head out the door. No sign of any people.
The long hallway finally ended with a set of dark wood stairs. Limping my way down them I bent over and placed my hands on my knees. Taking in a big gulp of air to relax my muscles. Okay, maybe I should have stayed in bed.
Another pot hit the ground and I flinched at the close proximity of the sound.
Turning around a corner I found the dining room. The dining room was as big as my own bed at home, holding a long oak table with 12 chairs sat around it.
From the corner of my eye I caught movement. Heading that way I found myself waking into a kitchen, and at the big island sat a girl about nineteen or twenty years old frosting cupcakes.
I cleared my throat, "Excuse me?"
The girl jumped and turned to look at me. Smiling she gestured for me to come towards her, "Hi! I'm Aminti. Am for short. You're Annora right?"
I nodded my head as I slowly sat on the bar still opposite of her, being cautious of my broken rib, "How'd you know?"
"Chase brought you in. He cares a lot about you." She smiled at me with perfect white teeth.
I smiled back slightly, "Maybe you can answer my question then, why am I here?"
Am shrugged, "Not really sure. But he watches you all the time. He rarely left your side while you were sleeping."
I blushed, "Really? Well, he did say he has a strong urge to protect me."
Am froze with wide eyes.
"Do you know what that means?" I asked quickly.
Am nodded slowly, "Yes. I do. But you won't understand, it's a lycan thing."
I furrowed my eyebrows, "May I learn what it is? Chase did say I'll be here for a while."
Am nodded and placed down here icing, "It's a thing called 'mate'"
