A Miracle Starts With a Beat of a Heart

Chapter 4

A few days had passed since Daisy found out about her pregnancy. Morning sickness still hit her hard every morning, but it was getting a little easier with the medications Jemma has been giving her along with other medicines Jemma has her on to help with her blood pressure and iron levels. Daisy knows that she should probably see an OBGYN soon to get proper prenatal care since Jemma, whose field is in biochem, can only do so much for her, but she still is unsure of what she wants to do.

It wasn't extremely uncommon to have a kid and work for SHIELD. Daisy knew several other agents who had families waiting for them at home. But that was just it. They had a home to go to. SHIELD was Daisy's home. The only real home she has ever known. The people she considered family were inside the base. How could she possibly raise a kid in the Lighthouse? Surely, if she did go through with the pregnancy and decide to raise the kid, she would still want to go out in the field after the baby is born. With her reputation in the world, that would only make her and her kid a target. Would she really want to put a little kid through all that?

Giving the child up for adoption was an option that Daisy was leaning away from. She herself was in the foster system for her entire life, save those first few months of her life where she was raised and loved by Cal and Jiaying. She knew that there were a lot more bad homes than good, and that was not something she would want her kid to go through. Especially with their inhuman genes, the chances of them getting adopted would not be in their favor. Sure, she could easily find someone to adopt the baby once they were born and do an extreme background check to make sure her kid got a happy life, but she also didn't want her kid to grow up, desperate to learn about their birth parents.

She also wasn't against abortion, and it was definitely something she was considering. Jemma and the Zephyr team were leaving for deep space really soon to find Fitz, and she had to make a decision soon. She was originally supposed to go, but if she chooses to go through with the pregnancy, she would be Earth-bound for the next nine months. If she terminated the pregnancy now, she would still be able to go on the mission. However, would she be able to leave this behind her? Something as big as a baby changes your life forever. 

Daisy was at an impasse with herself of what she wanted to do.

For now, she was just trying to get through the days. She was still doing work at the base; however, Mack did start to limit the amount Daisy was given. As of right now, he was really reluctant to send Daisy on any missions until she made a decision. Daisy was currently in charge of running back end and hacking systems, kind of like how she was back when she first started in SHIELD.

Daisy was sitting in the control center when Mack sat in the seat next to her with a heavy sigh. He looked to be tired or annoyed... or both. "What's going on, Director?"

Mack let out another sigh. "Reports from agents are telling me that our lemon boy is wanting to start his own tech company."

Daisy raised an eyebrow. "Deke? Really?"

Mack nodded. "I mean, we're letting him be a free man at the moment, so he can technically do whatever he wants with the money we gave him and the guidelines."

"Well, let's just hope he doesn't get himself arrested again."

"I don't think we need to worry about that," Mack said. "I spoke with him, and he seems to be getting acclimated to the twenty-first century pretty well.  I'm still thinking about sending an agent to go undercover to keep an eye on him. I'm leaning towards Agent Kahn. I updated Deke on a few things, but I'm not too certain on telling him about Fitz just yet."

"I don't know if keeping him in the dark about Fitz is a great idea, but Trevor is a good choice to spy on him," Daisy replied. She was silent for a little bit before speaking up once again. "So,  you gave Deke updates on things around here?" Mack nodded. "Did you, by any chance, mention the..." Daisy's eyes flicked downwards towards her lower body.
