The night was almost peaceful.
Almost.
It was very early in the morning when alarms began blaring throughout the Lighthouse. So early that it had only been a couple of hours at most since the party last night ended. Daisy shot up from her slumber at the sound of the alarms. The alarms also woke Nadia from her sleep and she cried from her crib.
Daisy quickly threw on something that wasn't pajamas before taking Nadia into her arms and running out of her quarters. She tried her best to calm the crying infant, but honestly, Daisy was probably just as scared. The alarms have never been set off like this before, so she had no idea what she was in for, but she couldn't just leave her baby stressed and by herself, and there was definitely no time to get someone to watch her at the moment.
Daisy heard a little bit of what happened as she ran through the halls, but she couldn't believe what she was hearing. It just wasn't possible. There was no way May would've shot Sarge in cold blood.
She soon ran into Fitz and Simmons, who had a medical bag thrown over her shoulder, then Mack and Elena as they all rushed to the cell they were keeping Sarge. All five of them slowed their running as they turned the corner to the hall of the cell.
They all froze as they watched medics take Sarge out on a gurney. He was shot in the chest and the head, and his blood practically drenched the shirt he was wearing. Daisy bounced Nadia in her arms, trying to calm her while turning her head away from the scene, still not wanting her to see this even though she most likely wouldn't remember this at all.
"Oh my god," Jemma stated. "Coulson." Daisy completely forgot that Fitzsimmons had yet to come face to face with Sarge, so, even though they knew he had Coulson's face and voice, they were in shock to see him.
"That is uncanny," Fitz said, really taking in the image of Coulson's doppelganger.
"That's not our guy. Remember that," Mack said, snapping the two of them out of their initial shocks. "But do what you can anyway."
Jemma turned back around to Mack. "We'll do what we can, Director." With that, she was off with Fitz and the medics to analyze and work on Sarge.
Mack nodded before turning to Agent Diaz who had the room secured. "Is she here?"
Diaz replied, "Yep. Won't talk to us though."
Mack, Elena, and Daisy all entered the room. By now, Daisy had gotten Nadia to calm down enough so that her cries were only soft whimpers. All three looked to May, who didn't seem the slightest bit fazed by everything that was going on.
"No need to ask," May started. "I did it. I shot him."
"Why?" Mack asked.
"Because it had to be done."
A million questions were floating through Daisy's mind. May wasn't like this. She never would shoot first unless necessary. This wasn't the May she knew.
This wasn't her mother.
"Why do I have to do it?" Daisy asked, Nadia now finally back to sleep in her arms.
Mack sighed, knowing Daisy didn't like this one bit. "Out of everyone here, you're the closest with May."
"That doesn't mean I want to be the one to interrogate her."
"I know, I know," Mack said. "But maybe you're the one who can get through to her."
Daisy sighed in defeat. Mack had a point. She knew May better than anyone. However, this didn't make sense at all. There was nothing telling Daisy that May would just pull a stunt like that. Sure, she hated Sarge. She hated that he looked just like Coulson, but Daisy knew May, and just going up and shooting him was not something May does. May always fights with her hands before turning to any sort of ammunition.
