Things were getting a lot more complicated than the team had planned for. Coulson was taken into custody by Sousa, and they had no idea how to contact him. Daisy wished Fitzsimmons had put some sort of homing beacon into him. Who knew when they were going to jump. They didn't want to leave anymore team members behind.
The current date was also a factor: July 22, 1955. Daniel Sousa's death date. He was to make a delivery for Howard Stark at the Hotel Roosevelt tonight. The history books say that he was killed by Russians, but after what he told Daisy what he knew, Daisy couldn't help but feel like there was something else at play.
This delivery was the only way they could think of that could lead them back to Coulson.
Thankfully, much to their luck, Coulson called in from Sousa's office to the old speakeasy from 1931, which was now a well-known SHIELD bar. He informed them that Enoch was still there, helping him connect to Zephyr One.
"Even if it wasn't the way they intended, the chronicoms may have altered history," Coulson expressed.
"When they took the body of Dr. Lindmore," Jemma finished for him. "Who happened to be working on technology vital to the future of SHIELD."
"Okay, so, just to clarify," Daisy began. "The history books say that tonight, Sousa delivers that thing and he... he dies?" Daisy knew what the history books said, but that didn't mean she had to like it. She never thought much of the SHIELD legend, but after speaking to him and getting to see what he was about, Daisy wanted nothing more than to get to know him a little more. A good man like Sousa didn't deserve to die so early in life.
"Unfortunately, yes," Mack stated."So... Lindmore's body is somewhere with his face erased."
"And that's where the device would be," Jemma added.
Mack continued, "We need to find his address. Coulson, as soon as we do, I'll send a team to retrieve this gadget and bring it to you on the train."
"You'll find me in the lounge car on the 5:10 to Los Angeles," Coulson responded.
Luckily, the technology on Z1 was far more advanced than that of the 50s, so Daisy was easily able to hack into data streams and find out the address of Dr. Lindmore. Once that was figured out, Mack sent out the team, which consisted of Elena and Deke, to check it out and retrieve the item.
It was supposed to be as simple as that: an easy grab-and-go mission. Unfortunately, things took a turn.
Deke got captured because of course he did.
Elena was able to get the device back to Zephyr One though, so there was at least a little good in the situation. Simmons opened the case, revealing the device, which was actually quite underwhelming for the rest of the team. "There she is," Jemma announced.
To the rest of them, it just looked like a rectangular piece of metal. Mack looked at it with a confused look. "That's it? That's a gadget?"
Jemma scoffed, clearly not understanding everyone's lack of excitement over it. "This is like the Rosetta Stone of SHIELD tech. Even the Zephyr can be traced back to this little darling.
"If you say so," Daisy said. That thing was probably used as a paperweight. I'm willing to bet a good amount of money on it.
That's when May brushed her hand over Jemma's shoulder, allowing herself more into the group to get a better look of the gadget. To everyone's surprise, she smiled. "Wow!" She exclaimed. "It is incredible isn't it?"
That sent an unnerving shiver down everyone's spines. Since when was May so interested in old tech? She hardly ever got a little excited about things let alone giddy. "Is it?" Elena questioned her.
