Into The Light

Chapter Forty-Three

Harley and Lylia gasped as they willed themselves to cast a final burst of magic. Blazing flames—now blue, no longer orange—ringed the demon queen. Orbs of shadow flew in an arc towards her, Gloom leading the charge. Alice screamed.

Sound ripped out of her like a tidal wave. Knocked back by the impact, they flew backwards and hit the wall. The two of them watched as the evil queen's red aura faded and she collapsed, unconscious.

"Her power is gone, Harley, we did it!" said Lylia weakly.

Harley smiled wanly at her. In the Abyss where Alice reigned, he knew that it wouldn't take long for her power to regenerate and for her to rise again. He offered a hand to Lylia. The Little Witch struggled to her feet and wrapped him in a hug.

His eyes widened slightly as she whispered into his shirt, "Thank you. You saved me." They widened even more as she pulled him down and kissed him again. Then they closed, content. He had saved Lylia. Lylia was his. Perfect. Still kissing her, he used the final bit of his magic to throw his hat down and teleport them out of the Abyss.

In the throne room, Harith was fighting a very different battle. He darted about the room, felling demons left and right. He could espy Barats and his dinosaur charging, spewing out oil back and forth. The Leonin glanced upwards desperately, feeling his power being sapped with every hit he took. "Nana, please..." He no longer cared if he lived or died. Nana had to survive. He was doing this all for her, wasn't he?

"Don't bully me!" A sudden yet familiar shriek reverberated through the room as magic paw prints appeared on the ground, stunning the demons. Harith gasped and looked up again, tears of joy welling in his eyes as Nana stared down with a mischievous grin. Spotting him, she beamed and waved, shouting a greeting. Harith smiled. Nana had returned.
