Into The Light

Chapter Twenty-Eight

Alice led Harley and Lylia onto a dark, certainly much tinier, battlefield. There was only a single lane, four jungle monsters and two patches of grass. "This is our Brawl Arena. We train here to hone our response to unexpected occurrences," she said. Alice soared into the air and exclaimed, "Now, the battle shall begin!"

Immediately, Harley was transported to the other end of the battlefield, where he found that instead of one, he now had two available skills. He purchased his Arcane Boots and set off.

"Ack!" Harley squealed. He had not expected Lylia to reach the battlefield so quickly. Looking above him, he discovered that he could now see how much life and mana he had left in a green bar. With her first skill alone, Lylia had drained almost a quarter of his life. Harley threw his poker cards at a yelping Lylia, who promptly sent out Gloom after him. Harley teleported away into a bush where he knew Lylia couldn't see him, leaving his hat behind. To his surprise, his regenerative battle spell was gone, replaced by Flicker and Purify.

"Purify and Flicker...I don't need that! This type of battle is weird!" Harley sulked. Glancing out of the bush, he noticed that Lylia already had her ultimate skill, and was quickly clearing minion waves. Harley's brow set. "Let's go crush this!"

Harley used his second skill again to take him back to where he had been a while ago. However, Lylia did not seem to be bothered. A split second later, he heard Alice call, "Harley, dear, your turret has been destroyed!"

"Huh, already? I'd better go!" he said to himself urgently. However, Lylia blocked him before he could clear the minion waves. Sending out a shadow ball, Lylia nearly caught Harley, but his reflexes were still fast. Dodging this, Harley threw out the poker cards again and wrapped Lylia in a ring of fire. He smiled in satisfaction as Lylia's health slowly decayed.

A while later, Alice yelled, "Oh no, Lylia! You have been slain!" Harley turned around from attacking the turret just as her body slumped onto the ground. Harley bit his lip but continued trying to destroy Lylia's turret. Alice chuckled. "So cold-hearted, your friend. Not even caring that you died," she said, mostly to herself.

Afterwards, Lylia resurrected. Harley glanced at her build and muttered, "she's a lot stronger now. I'd better watch out." He attempted to buy a Lightning Truncheon, but...

"Eh, why can't I buy anything?" Harley truly had no idea of how to battle in a Brawl. Alice giggled and explained it to him from above. Harley groaned angrily, not having expected the news. "I'll just have to let her kill me, then," he murmured. Not too long after, Harley was dead on the floor.

"Heh, easy kill," Lylia smirked. To Harley's immense horror, she pushed through to his inhibitor turret, leaving a clear track all the way to his base.

Thankfully, Harley resurrected before Lylia could do further harm. He bought the items he needed and rushed out of the base, ready to fight. He sent out his poker cards again, aiming for Lylia. She dodged them and commanded Gloom to get him. Harley evaded Gloom's attacks and used his ultimate skill again, engulfing Lylia in a ring of flames. She shrieked and threw two shadow balls at him. However, while the battle was raging, Lylia's minions had done the work. Harley could only look on in horror as his base exploded into smithereens.
