Chapter Forty-Two

Lylia opened her eyes.

"Lylia! Are you okay?" Harley exclaimed the moment he noticed. She blinked a few times and nodded. Her eyes sharpened and fixed on him.

"What's going on?" she asked. Harley set her down lightly and Lylia stood. As soon as she saw the smirking Alice, her gaze hardened.

Lylia screamed, "You promised not to do anything to me! You promised!"

Alice simply gave her a bored glance and checked her nails. "Does the promise of a demon really mean anything?"

Lylia seethed and pointed her wand towards the queen. "How dare you?!" she raged. Harley's eyebrows furrowed and he dashed in front of Lylia, facing his back to the demon queen.

"You're still weak. We need to go now!" he urged.

"No. I have to do this." Lylia looked expectantly at Harley. "Cover me?"

He sighed and nodded, going back round and pressing his back to hers, looking around carefully for any other demons.

Alice laughed. "No, I didn't bring backup." She gave them an evil grin. "As long as you win, you can leave."

Harley gritted his teeth and pulled out his wand. Lylia would definitely need his help here. As soon as he did so, Lylia shrieked, "Gloom, go!" A shadow ball appeared on the ground near Alice, and Gloom shot towards it. The ball exploded before Alice could react. She smiled viciously and threw a Blood Orb towards the duo, teleporting towards them.

Poker cards flew out towards the queen, slashing at her. Lylia sent another round of shadow balls towards her, only for Alice to immobilise them with another explosion. Lylia staggered and nearly collapsed, but straightened bravely again. Alice smirked.

'He's right, Little Witch. You're weak. Too weak," she spat. "Yo should just surrender."

"Never!" Lylia roared. She leaped away and fired Gloom at her again. "Back me up with your ultimate, Harley. We can win!" Harley nodded and flames wrapped Alice up. She groaned despite herself.

"You made me," she gritted out.

A glowing red circle appeared around her, and Alice laughed, some of her scars fading. "Now, your blood empowers me!"

Agony. Pure, excruciating agony. Both of them cried out, feeling the energy leave their body. Alice raised a hand, and Harley was lifted into the air, his will not his own. Another, and Lylia was knocked down. Alice had total control over their bodies now.

"We have to take her out now before we're weakened too much," Lylia panted. "On three." Harley nodded weakly, trying not to sink to his knees.

"One!"

"Two!"

"Three!"
