Chapter Thirty-One

 In the Abyss, Alice and Vexana were arguing. "Where is my prize? You promised me!" Vexana hissed. "I fulfilled my side of the deal, so where is my payment?"

Alice smiled sweetly. "Of course, Vexana dear. Your prize will take time to come. Be patient." Vexana scowled but said nothing.

Back in the Magic Academy, Harley was thinking hard. Barats was right. He had wanted to be the hero when it came to saving Lylia. But now that Harley had seen the Abyssal Forces, he knew it wasn't possible to save her alone. Although he was undoubtedly powerful, the demons far outnumbered him. Harley would need a team. And he thought he knew just who to ask.

"What? The Abyss? Are you serious, Harley? What are you thinking? I mean, I know you like her and everything, but are you sure?" Harith exclaimed, shocked. Harley had just told him about his plan and asked for his help.

Harley shrugged. "If you don't want to help, it's fine. Barats agreed," he said indifferently.

The Leonin sighed, looking toward the sky. "I mean...I guess I don't have a choice. You two can't face the demons all alone." Just then, Nana poked her head out from behind Harith. She had been eavesdropping on their conversation.

"Where are you going? I want to come!" Nana declared enthusiastically.

"Uh...I'm not going anywhere," Harith lied, Harley nodding along.

Nana pouted a little. "I know you're lying. I heard you and Harley discussing a trip to somewhere." She grabbed Harith's hand. "You wouldn't leave your girlfriend out, would you?"

Harith hesitated, but Harley nudged him and whispered, "Nana is powerful too. Maybe she should come with us."

"No! It's too dangerous!" Harith protested, but Nana giggled.

"See, Harley thinks I should come too! Please?" she begged, smiling slightly. Harith sighed wearily again. Harley and Nana both looked at him with puppy-dog eyes.

"Fine!" he cried, giving in to their silent pleas. Then, the mage rounded on Harley. "But you'd better make sure she doesn't get hurt or anything like that." Harley nodded. Finally, he had a team: himself, Barats, Harith and Nana. They would save Lylia!
