Chapter Twenty-Four

In the Abyss, Alice was stomping on the floor angrily in front of her council. "How could my plan fail? The boy didn't seem to care about her!" she yelled. Lylia, standing beside the queen, bowed her head and murmured an apology. At once, Alice turned to her, all smiles again.

"It's okay, my dear, that was not your fault at all," she said sweetly. An evil grin formed on her face. "I think we will need to try a different approach. Could someone fetch the Twisted Summoner?"

After a while, Alice stood before the necromancer. "Vexana, dear, I was wondering if you could do me a favour," she inquired.

Vexana bristled and hissed, "Alice, what do you want? I still have not forgiven you for what you did all that time ago."

Alice smiled charmingly. "I would like you to create a -what do you call it?- puppet of this girl." She pointed at Lylia, who was standing by the door of the throne room.

The necromancer arched an eyebrow. "She's alive, Alice. I deal with the dead," she commented. Alice's smile twisted into a frown.

"You dare question me? I know your power, Vexana. I know what you can do. You can definitely reanimate her," Alice spat. Vexana pressed her lips tightly together.

"Very well, my queen, but what will you give me in return? I require payment," Vexana queried, putting on a facade of politeness.

Alice ground her teeth together, but hid her emotions. At least they were getting somewhere. "Guinevere Baroque or Odette Regina," Alice declared. "Take your pick."

From the back of the room, Lylia suddenly piped up, "No, wait!" She smirked. Although she did not remember much of her life before she had drunk the potion, Lylia did remember one thing: why she had agreed to go to the Abyss. "Choosing her will let you have a powerful time-traveller on your side, on top of my dear Harley." Vexana and Alice looked at the Little Wizard curiously. "I vote you pick Nana."

Vexana laughed, "A powerful time-traveller! Sounds good to me." She stood up and beckoned to Lylia. "Come, girl." With that, she swept out of the room, Lylia trailing behind her.
