Into The Light

Chapter Two

Lylia and Harley were strolling around the campus of the Magic Academy, chatting animatedly. "So, why did you transfer here?" Lylia asked curiously.

Harley flashed his new friend a grin. "Oh, I burned down the lab at my old school. They expelled me for that." Then, the two of them burst into laughter.

Then, they heard a voice behind them. "Ooh, idiot's got a friend now! How surprising. Who would ever want to befriend her?"

Harley and Lylia turned to face the source of the noise. It was the infamous bully and all-round irritating kid, Barats, accompanied by his hulking dinosaur, Rahal. Lylia shrunk behind Harley. Barats loved tormenting her and pulling evil pranks. Lylia did not want to embarrass herself in front of her new friend.

To her surprise, Harley glared at Barats menacingly, stretching out an arm to protect Lylia from whatever he was about to do. "Listen, I don't know who you are, but Lylia is not an idiot! She is my friend, and you will not hurt her!" he barked.

Lylia flushed and gazed at Harley in wonder. "I didn't expect him to defend me like that," she thought.

Barats simply guffawed, "So, that's how it is. Okay, I'll leave you two alone for now." His eyes focused on Harley and Lylia. "But you better watch out. I'll be back." With those menacing words, Barats pranced off, his dinosaur following obediently behind.

Harley shuddered as the bully left. "Wow, is this the kind of person who bullies you?" he asked Lylia. She nodded solemnly.

"Not to worry!" Harley smiled. "As long as I'm around, nothing will ever let him touch you!" Lylia felt her cheeks warm again as she followed Harley away.
