unkept promises- Inuyasha x reader

A little closer

You heard a knock on your door with you quickly replied. "Come in." You saw the strands of silver hair before you actually saw him enter. Standing to attention as the male you  found strange walked in with what seemed to be an apologetic expression.

"Have you come to finally tell me what you want?"

He stood about a metre away. "I came to say I'm sorry. I feel like I pried too much."

You swallowed your words for a second as just like no one had thanked you no had apologized. "Well I accept your apology but is that all you are here for?"

He stared directly at you. "No there's another reason, I really do want to get to know you."

Interested you met his gaze, "what are you suggesting?"

"Friends. I want to be friends."

You blinked taken aback. "Why do you want to be friends...with me?" He closed the gap between you two, "do I need a reason? It's because you seem cool and I like you."

Your heart flipped at the word "like" what was this feeling? You sighed and tried to deter him. "While your offer is kind-"

"It's not an offer it's a statement." He said cutting you off.

"You're weird." The dog demon laughed a little at your words. "If you don't want to be friends that's fine."

"No I...I do want to be friends, it is lonely all by myself."

You actually did something for yourself this time, not for others. Inuyasha stretched his joints as he spoke. "I dunno about you but I'm starving, what have you got to eat?"

You laughed this time, to him the sound was beautiful as his ears moved about straining to hear it again. He tried to clear his thoughts of why he would find your laugh pleasant.

"I can have the servants prepare the food in a short while. Let's head down to the garden to eat the food."

He nodded. "A picnic sounds nice."

You enjoyed his company as he bit into a apple & cinnamon muffin. His fangs sunk within the fluffy texture, you plopped a cherry into your mouth and spat out the seed.

Inbetween chewing he asked, "so am I allowed to get an answer about why you don't defend yourself."

You sighed, "I don't see the harm in telling you. Basically if I did it would be foreseen as aggressive and an unjustified attack. So I don't to keep them happy."

His brow furrowed. "They are already pissed with the fact that if they break the contract you can kill them if you need to."

"I know."

"Your reputation is a demon who kills mercilessly. Whatever you do, someone will reflect badly on it."

"I know." You repeated.

Inuyasha finished the muffin as he licked his fingers clean. "Then if you know. Screw what they think and do what you always do."

Grabbing another cherry, you thumbed it's soft but firm surface. "I can't act out, I'd rather not be seen as a monster by everyone."

Inuyasha smiled as he said, "I don't think you are a monster."

Your pupils widened, genuinely surprised to hear that being spoken. Inuyasha guided your hand to your mouth as he pushed the cherry inside. His fingers lightly brushing your bottom lip.

He pulled back as if he hadn't just come into contact with you. "Food is uh there to be eaten."

You chewed and nodded in agreement as for the first time you could hear the thunderous beat of the red organ pulsing in your eardrums.

"You know you've only asked questions so far. I think it's time I ask some of my own."

Both of you smiled as he responded with. "Sure. Shoot."

He told you about his parents and what happened to them. How his childhood had been and finally what he'd come to you to ask.

"A full-fledged demon, interesting."

You talked until the sun went down, having eaten all the cherries and muffins that were supplied. He walked with you back to the mansion, saying goodnight and both retreating to your beds.

As Inuyasha's head hit the pillow he wondered if he was getting in too deep.
