Epilogue 3.
*****
*Five years later*
I shut my eyes throwing my head back as I let out an exhausted sigh. I had just arrived back from a mission and after briefing the directors on the final outcomes with my partner – a randomly assigned 4th level agent. Ever since completing the 4th level exam, I had been on mission after mission with just a couple of days or so in between each one. I had expected a lot of work given how little I had always seen of Rave and then my other siblings too when they levelled up, but I had not expected it to be so tiring.
"Hey, Ari." I let out a cry in protest trying to reach the handle as Rave's hand grabbed my arm and immediately began dragging me away from my bedroom door. "You're not even going to greet me?" He laughed. It made me realise that I had not seen him in weeks given that we were always on missions at different times.
"I need to sleep." I groaned.
"Maybe next time."
"What?! No –"
"I told you to throw the 4th level exam, but you didn't listen to me. Ger said he told you too. Serves you right for not listening to us."
"You guys made it look easy."
"We make everything look easy. Where's the deceased prince?"
"Don't say that!" I punched his side hating that joke at the moment, "A mission – so don't say that."
"Fine, fine." Rave rolled his eyes, "How is he?"
"He was doing good last Thursday." I frowned. Nine days. That's the last time I saw or spoke to Maximilian and only for a few minutes because then I had to meet Arthur who immediately assigned the mission I had just completed.
"Tough." Rave looked sympathetic.
"Where are we going?"
"Wesley."
"Wesley? No." I groaned.
"Hey, pull it together, 4th level." I shut my eyes as we walked. It had been weeks of mission after mission with barely any time to sleep in between, let alone a break. I just needed some sleep and really wanted more than a few minutes with Maximilian, I missed him so much. Rave's hand grabbing my arm made my eyes shoot open just in time for me to stumble as he pulled me past a pillar I would have walked into.
"There can't be this many mission," I whined as we entered the elevator.
"Why did you think I was never around?"
"I thought you were just being a jerk."
"Little bit of both." We laughed.
We found the director alone in his office all the way on the top floor of the building.
"Good morning." Rave and I greeted in unison after we entered the room.
Wesley just gave us a wave as he was currently on the phone before he hung up and lifted some folders towards up. I reluctantly took the files held out to me cursing at the fact that it really was another mission. I held three files in my hand, rave only got one. I figured he had another solo mission. Wesley pointing hat out and telling me to stay back a few more minutes confirmed that.
"Rave, have you considered what we talked about yesterday –?"
"Yes and still a no."
"Rave, it's an incredible opportunity –"
"I understand, and still no. I'm going to get breakfast, see you later, Ari." I furrowed my brows wondering what that was about as Rave disappeared out of the door before looking back at the man in front of me.
