Epilogue part 2

*****

We had just got outside and had barely made it into the trees when Maximilian's phone began ringing. He furrowed his brows as he pulled the phone from his pocket to look at the screen. I took his other hand noticing he was not looking up while we walked.

"It's Tristan." Since first levels were usually divided into smaller groups so that they could be evaluated more closely as they trained, I figured Tristan was Maximilian's group leader and instructor. Basically Maximilian's new babysitter until he made second level.

"He probably received an alert that you've left the building." I replied, glancing back at him as I led him along while he seemed to be trying to figure out whether or not to answer the call, instead he ended up looking at me while letting it ring.

"What? How? Why aren't you surprised –? Aria."

"There are trackers in our phones and watches, you didn't know that?"

"I... No, I didn't..." He glanced at his watch like he thought maybe it was something he should have known, it was because they definitely told him that when they handed it to him but he must not have been paying attention, "You knew they would find out as soon as we left." He frowned at me. I nodded with a grin. "Then why did we sneak out, Ari?"

"Because it was fun." I replied, "And I'm sure you could use the practice." I laughed when he narrowed his eyes at me, "Also, we really aren't supposed to leave the building, they would not have let us out easily." He shook his head as he chuckled.

"I didn't know I was signing up for prison when I came here."

"You should have."

"Yeah, I should have given both you and Rave not even knowing what pizza was when you met us. What did I expect? God, I miss food."

"We have food."

"The food here sucks, it should not even pass as food. It's like eating sawdust mixed with water." He replied, "I used to wake up and be able to call on someone to bring me whatever type of food I wanted. What I would give for just a grilled cheese sandwich right now." He let out a mournful sigh and I laughed as I stopped walking.

"Wanna go home, your highness?" I asked.

"Why would I want to go back to my room, we just came outside." I smiled and he grinned back at me, "Come on, race you... wherever." He tugged my hand before he began running without letting it go causing me to stumble when he suddenly dragged me.

"We can't race if you won't let go of my hand." I called out running beside him.

"We both know you're faster and I have no idea where we're going."

"You think I'd leave you out here?" I asked looking at him. We were surrounded by trees now, and could not see the building through the leaves that surrounded us.

"Yes."

"I probably would." He would be fine... I think. The island was not that big, if he walked for a while in any direction, I was sure he would eventually either get to the beach, the building or a clearing he could see the building from. He shoved me with his shoulder like he was trying to push me behind him so he could run ahead and I cried out when I tripped over his foot, but he caught me, "Max, why?" I shoved his chest lightly as he straightened us.

"This is how people meet and fall for each other in movies, you're supposed to be mesmerized by the beauty of and forget how to breathe, hey, look at me." I pushed him again as I looked up at his grinning face.

"You're an idiot. I'm never coming out with you again." I twisted from his grip. He laughed behind me as I began to turn to leave but I felt him he take my hand again. It made me smile. He did not seem to want to let me go for a second, I didn't mind. His hand was big and warm and I had actually missed him being overly close to me all the time, "Stop messing around, we have to get there before seven." I said.
