Chapter 24.

*****

"I definitely think it's him." Kendall tapped the pictures, "They have to be helping him, they have been in the palace recently and he's the one with the biggest motive here."

"You're saying all their cousins are together in this?" Natalie asked.

"I don't see why not, he's not the friendliest of people." Riley replied talking about Adrian.

"You wouldn't be either if you and your family are constantly being targeted, so your safety is constantly being violated while your life is being threatened." I raised my brows wondering if Natalie had forgotten what we do.

"You mean like what I do for a living?" Riley asked.

"Oh... true." I smiled as the guys chuckled before Natalie shook her head, "They aren't trained to handle this like we are, though."

"Right. I guess I just don't like how he keeps asking for Ari." Everyone looked at me when Riley mentioned me and I shrugged deciding to draw them back to what Kendall was saying.

"I agree with Kendall. Not all of their cousins, but those two are in on it. It does not explain why Heath would expose himself like that."

Kendall's theory was that the two cousins that had been at the meeting were working with Maximilian's late uncle's son – Jeremy in some revenge plot. Despite his father having been killed because he was trying to kill the princes, Jeremy had blamed Adrian's family for his father's death. He must have known Heath better than the rest of the family as his father had been working closely with him before his death.

"Maybe Jeremy just has more to offer him? Or maybe Heath actually is loyal to certain royals?" Riley spoke. "Why don't we just talk to Jeremy and those two? I'm sure we could get answers fastest from the sources." He frowned. Despite using the word, I knew he had no intention of talking.

"Because things just aren't that easy out here, you can't just torture people into confessing, especially these people. We have to be more subtle..." Kendall drifted, "I know where Jeremy lives, I've been there before. I'll see what I can get out of him."

No one argued because there would be enough of us watching the two princes that could not set foot downstairs right now while he was gone. We finished our discussion before dispersing back to our positions so we could take over from the handful of guards we could trust and I made my way upstairs to check on Adrian.

I was worried about Maximilian. The king had looked visibly furious when he arrived back at the palace and immediately called for Maximilian so I was certain he got it pretty badly from his father. Probably Adrian too if he had seen the article by now, I could not tell because he had been calm and mostly quiet as we made our way back.

I slowed my pace as I made my way closer to Adrian's room seeing his door somewhat open and hearing his voice. I froze outside hearing Maximilian respond to his brother and attempted to back away because I did not want to be near both of them at the same time, especially while they were probably arguing but I stopped when I heard Adrian again.

"I'm your brother. No matter how angry you are at me, you don't pull something like that. We can only trust each other, Max." It hurt hearing him say that, because I knew it was true given the situation with their cousins right now, and their uncle before that. I peeked into the room to see Maximilian nodding as he looked down.

"It was stupid, I was just being impulsive and angry; I was never actually going to hurt you."

"I know." Adrian replied.

"I'm sorry I even considered it." I smiled watching Adrian hug Maximilian who seemed to hesitate before he lifted his arms to hug his brother back and when they stepped apart Adrian smirked.
