Chapter 7.
*****
Thanks to Maximilian, I found myself trying to manoeuvre upstairs through countless people who kept shoving against me and each other as music blasted so loudly it made my head pound. I had been downstairs for a couple of hours and needed to get somewhere where the music was at least a little muffled and there was no other people that I did not know. I held a bottle of juice in my hand as I made my way through everyone until I finally made it to the second floor of the beach house. There were more people upstairs and I immediately made my way down the hall until I spotted a slightly ajar door and shoved it open praying there was no one inside. Just my luck that there were people inside the bedroom I had just entered, very naked people. I called an apology to the people who paid me no mind as I pulled the door shut and then turned to look for another room to escape to, but I stopped when I almost bumped into someone.
"Sorry." I was about to pass them by without even looking up to see their face but their hand caught my arm lightly.
"Aria, why are you looking for a room? Are you drunk?" I looked up at Maximilian and laughed. He held a beer in his hand, looking slightly concerned as he looked around, like he was expecting to see someone else. Was he upstairs to hide from someone or was he looking for a room too?
"Of course not." I did not even drink, "To be alone. I forgot how loud and full these were." I said.
"Oh." His face seemed to brighten.
"Max, you really had to use your win on this?" I asked.
"Yes, you hate parties." He grinned and I sighed.
"Help me find a room." I told him.
"I have something better." Before I could ask what it was he grabbed my free hand and began tugging me back towards the stairs I had just fought my way through to get up here.
"Max –"
"Come on, Ari. My win. Your torturous experience, no objections you know that." I glared at his back but did not argue as I let him lead me downstairs and outside.
"Oh yay." He laughed as I spoke unintentionally, I was just so relieved to have the cold, fresh ocean air brush against my face as the music died down slightly behind us while he kept pulling me further down the beach through the few people scattered around the house until there were none. "Where are we going?" I asked glancing back at some people that were playing in the water.
"Want to go back?"
"A year and you're still a jerk." I frowned at his back but smiled when he just laughed.
I decided to stop questioning him, I mean knowing him the worst Maximilian could do is a smaller party and right now I was just glad to be outside for a little while. I looked down realising he still held my hand, presumably because he knew I had no idea where we were going and he thought I would not follow him, so I took a little jog until I was beside him and let his hand go to grab my phone from my pocket. Tapping the screen showed me it was almost 11 PM before I shoved it back into my pocket and took a deep breath enjoying the cool air.
"Here." Maximilian held out the hairband he had stolen from me earlier. He still did that. Said I needed to look less 'teacher' for the party. Whatever that meant.
I took it happily and tied my hair back into a bun.
Maximilian and I walked for another five minutes in comfortable silence listening to the ocean and the sounds of the party behind us until he suddenly lifted his arm in front of me causing me to stumble to a stop. I looked at him and he was looking at the ocean so I followed his gaze out and raised my brows seeing lights in the distance.
