Chapter 8.
*****
It had just passed 9AM when we docked, having slept on the boat. Maximilian insisted dropping me, pointing out that there were two cars of guards around, one leading the car and one following that tried to make it not seem very obvious that they were guarding this car as they drove because he insisted on driving himself.
The ride was pretty quiet apart from soft music coming from the radio because we were both still tired considering that I was a light sleeper and every rock the boat made woke me up, along with Shayne's snoring while Maximilian had stayed up all night with Jamie and they only had an hour of sleep.
"Don't you want to hang out at the palace?" He asked suddenly. "I mean, why go home when you're probably going to end up coming by anyway." I looked at him smiling.
"I actually wasn't planning on coming by. I have a report to write for work." Well, I was not going to do the report yet, I would probably just spend some time online or talking to Diego and then go to the gum later on.
"Is this your way of telling me you want to be left alone?" He smiled as he glanced at me and I just nodded. "I knew it." I laughed, "So what's the report about?"
I titled my head staring ahead as I wondered whether to tell him the truth or not. "I got suspended." I looked at him surprised when he began chuckling. "Hey, don't laugh! It's not funny!" I frowned at him.
"I figured it would happen eventually, I mean, it's you." I punched his arm. What was that supposed to mean? He was still laughing as he yelled, "I'm driving, Aria!"
"You're great. I'm really glad I know you." I looked out of the window as the sarcasm left my mouth.
"I know. How lucky are you?" I frowned at him. "Seriously, though, Ari. You're clearly not one to follow rules, no matter how hard you focus on them and try to. I'm not surprised by this. It's kind of overdue in my opinion." I frowned at him but held back telling him I had been reprimanded quite a few times in the past year. The only reason I had not been fired was probably because the agency gave me such a great recommendation and I had caught a few people even if I did it without Danika's help, "So... what did you do?" I shrugged, I couldn't give him details about it but I was not going to tell him it was because I disobeyed someone, I was not exactly proud of why I got suspended, "Fine, just... try not to get hurt, okay?" He glanced at me before looking back at the road. I felt myself smile at that.
"I'm good for the next two weeks."
"Two weeks and you want to be alone?!" He exclaimed.
"Max, shut up." I closed my ears before I dropped my hands. "Yes, I've hung out with you enough already, you're not that interesting... actually kind of annoying." The offended gasp I got from him made me burst out laughing.
"Ha. We'll see. Just remember this moment so you know why I'm ignoring your calls when you realise your wrongdoing."
He turned into the parking lot of the apartment complex while I was still laughing and parked near the gate, which meant I would have to walk across six lanes of parking to get to the doors.
"Really?" I asked at his pettiness.
"Yes." He said. I shook my head at him and he grinned, "Really though, don't you wanna come over? No one's going to mind if you just stay there for two weeks, probably won't even notice since they're never there."
"Aw, you're lonely?" I looked at him faking pity as I tried to poke his cheek but he pushed my hand away.
"Get out."
