Chapter 14.

*****

I tensed for a moment when I realised that where I was did not smell like a place I recognised but calmed down slightly when I heard soft dripping and managed to place the smell. Hospital. I was in hospital... bed. Me? Why would I...? I tried to play back everything in my mind but my eyes opened when I felt someone touch the blanket that was covering me.

"Oh, good evening Ari." I looked up and relaxed as I realised it was just Maximilian and he was pulling the blanket to cover my shoulders. "You feeling okay?" He asked.

I nodded. I could breathe, thankfully. I never wanted to feel that choked up again in my life, I thought I was going to die.

"What happened?"

"We called the ambulance, they arrived and brought you here. Apparently you could have had a heart attack if they took any longer. Could have died." Maximilian looked incredibly worried as he swallowed glancing down before he looked back at me. "So, Ari. Do you want the good news or the bad news first?" There was news? He still had not told me what happened. Where was the doctor? Why would I have a heart attack? I'm pretty sure heart attacks aren't accompanied by feelings of your throat swelling up to the point where you could not breathe at all.

"Good?" I guess.

"There was no poison, so no one is trying to kill me yet." He said.

"That's a relief. Bad?" I asked.

"You have a serious life-threatening allergy to sesame seeds."

Oh... "Really?" I asked.

"Yes, you really could have died, Aria." He said seriously. I nodded and we were silent for a few seconds as I looked around the room. The view from a hospital bed was a new sight for me. My eyes eventually returned to Maximilian.

"What...?" I asked because he was staring at me, it was making me nervous but I was trying not to move my hands to fidget as my heart picked up. I lifted my hands figuring there was something on my face and winced feeling that my skin felt slightly swollen. Oh. My face must look like crap.

"Nothing." He shook his head.

"Okay," I shoved the blanket aside but he grabbed my shoulders as I tried to sit up.

"What are you doing? You need to rest."

"I'm fine. I can't just lay here." I said pushing his arms aside and sitting up before I threw my legs over the side of the bed to climb off but he stepped in front of me holding his arms out on either side of him like he could stop me from pushing him aside.

"Aria, the doctor said you needed rest."

"I'm sure I've had some rest, my body feels really stiff – Max, move away. I need to stretch."

"What's this?" I looked behind me and my jaw dropped slightly.

"Rave?" I was not sure if I had really heard or was really seeing him.

"Dad told me to check up on you since I'm the only one between missions, so here I am." He opened his arms as if presenting himself. I had not seen my eldest brother in person for moths, and I had not expected to for a while more.

"How did you get in here?" Maximilian asked. I furrowed my brows the same time Rave did because it was obvious he had come through the window, probably from the roof. Maximilian sighed, "Never mind."

"Maximilian, what are you even doing here?" Rave replied.

"Aria had an allergic reaction."

"Yeah, you didn't have to check on me." I said to my brother. It was dangerous for both him and us for him to be there so casually.
