Chapter 27.
*****
I looked up at the ceiling as I blinked to let my eyes adjust to the room and the light. It only took me a few seconds to realise where I was and I did not even have to look away from the ceiling to do so, the agency infirmity had unique lighting that was little circles scattered across the ceiling, it was blindingly bright and the room smelt of sanitizer. My next thought was how I ended up there to begin with, as I thought back running over what I could last remember, I lifted my hand to touch my head lightly as I head Maximilian's voice in my mind yell about it. My fingers brushed against the course surface that was bandage and I frowned. Were they okay? I sighed considering that that had been the worst time to get injured, I was supposed to be taking care of them.
I pushed myself up and immediately shut my eyes as the movement made the room spin around me as my head began pounding.
"Honey." Forgetting about my head again because of my surprise at the voice, I turned fast to confirm that I was right about the voice and groaned shutting my eyes as nausea filled me. "Ari, lay down." My father spoke.
"Why are you here?" I replied letting him push me back onto my back only because my head hurt too much to argue.
"You have not seen me in weeks and that's how you greet me?"
"I-I mean... Hi, Daddy..." I smiled sweetly, "You know what I mean." He chuckled lightly and I smiled again having missed hearing that.
"You got hurt." I looked at him where he stood beside the bed and raised my brows.
"We get hurt all the time."
"Yeah, but you're the baby." I frowned hearing my brother Tony before I saw him as he entered the room holding two steaming cups. Coffee for him and our dad, I figured. He handed one to our father as soon as he was close enough and took a sip of his own.
"Aren't you supposed to be on a mission too?" I asked.
"A new one, but it was postponed." He replied.
"Great." I pushed myself back into sitting position and still received a glare from my father even though I moved really slowly.
"You're not happy to have me here, Kiddo?" He pouted but made a face directly afterwards and I frowned back at him.
"Don't call me that."
"Baby."
"Shut up, I wish Gerard was here, not you."
"Gerard asked what you did to hurt your head and then said you were probably being impulsive or not paying enough attention to your surroundings, rookie mistakes."
"I hate both of you, Rave should have been here." I said. He gasped faking hurt as he lifted his hand to his chest.
"Wow, so mean, no wonder you have so much bad luck." He smiled.
"Really?" Our father in.
"He..." I stopped myself from saying he started it realising we seemed to have reverted to acting like children, "I'm getting water."
"No, no –" Tony reached out to prevent me from climbing out of bed.
"My legs feel stiff. I need to walk around... How long have I been out?"
"About four days. We knew you were okay, just wanted to make sure." Dad said. "You should stay in bed though, clearly your head is still bothering you."
"I'm okay." I insisted but both of them refused to move from the side of my bed and just stood frowning at me. I sighed. I sighed as I laid back down. "Are the princes okay?"
