Chapter 25.
*****
I shoved the princes towards one of the rooms and I stood at the end of the hallway peeking down the stairs as I heard more commotion downstairs and outside. I didn't want to leave the stairway, because if we all went into the room and some of the people downstairs – God knows how many there were, quite a few considering all the noise downstairs and outside – made it upstairs, we would be trapped in that room.
"Aria –" Adrian began.
"I need you to go into the B storeroom and break the wall on the left side –"
"What's the B storeroom?" The brothers cut me off. I frowned at them. "We only come up here for meetings." Adrian frowned back at me. They lived in the palace.
"Down that hall, second door on the right." I pointed. "Break the wall in the store room, there will be weapons. I need three grenades."
"Grenades?!" Adrian gasped. "This is our house! You can't use a bomb in our house."
"Adrian, what do you think happened to the stairs?" I asked. "We have to do whatever it takes to keep them downstairs." I said.
"How are we going to get downstairs?" I didn't know yet, but I was not going to tell him that because he was already freaking out.
"Adrian. Trust me. You'll both be okay, I promise." He stared at me for a second before he nodded letting out a sigh, "Where..." I realised Maximilian was gone but a loud thud quickly told me where he was, it was followed by a series of softer thudding sounds as bricks fell onto the carpet while Maximilian probably pulled them out of the wall. I looked back down the stairs wondering why Natalie had not made it up yet. I was just going to assume there were quite a few people on the second floor.
"Whoa, this is so sick... and terrifying!" Maximilian shouted. "Ari, smoke grenades or those round grenades?" He called out. Why did he sound like he was shopping? It was amusing despite the situation.
"Tw –" I stopped as I heard some noise on the stairs bellow, it sounded like footsteps trotting up towards us. I held my breath glancing towards the hall I had just sent Maximillian and Adrian towards. I figured that I should not leave them alone, but I could not let anyone up onto the floor we were on or we would be in more trouble than we were and it would be much easier to pin point exactly where we were. They would be fine for a few seconds considering that the bunker entrances to the 4th floor were all down which only left the stairs I was right beside. There was only one way up to us.
I ignored Maximilian's second call and began my way down the stairs listening to the feet making their way onto the third floor. I stopped on the platform between the third and fourth floor stairs as they ran and hid behind the railing. I counted three sets that stumbled to a confused halt once they were on the third floor. They must have been wondering how they could find us. I looked up hoping Maximilian was done throwing bricks around, and it seemed that way because the 4th floor was silent.
I heard one of the men state that he would wait at the stairs while the other two looked around the third floor. I peeked down the staircase to see that that was exactly what they did, the guy left at the stairs began to turn to face the stairs going up and I quickly slid back into hiding. Clenching my jaw, I began to wonder how I could take him out without alerting his friends that I had done so. If he was not facing the top of the stairs, I could have just snuck down behind him and slit his throat, I could not risk knocking him out and having him awaken again. Besides, he was here to kill and so it was us or him. His hands held his gun in front on his chest, it would take a second for him to aim it at me once he saw me, I would be able to shoot him before he could fire but even with the suppressor on the gun in my hand, the other two would definitely be alerted that something was happening because of the noise. I was just going to have to take him out and then go for them directly afterwards, but they probably had bombs with them. They could just toss one upstairs. I looked up to the top of the stairs seeing movement and saw the brothers staring at me looking afraid, but curios and slightly angry. Maximilian held a couple of smoke grenades and I motioned for him to throw it. He glanced down before tossing it lightly at me and I caught it easily. I lifted my finger to the little loop to pull the pin but stopped when I heard more feet. More of them had made it up?! What was going on downstairs?
