Chapter 29.
*****
I had only just made it into the hallway when I felt someone grab my arm to stop me.
"Ari –"
"Don't." I cut Maximilian off as I turned to face him. "Talk." I finished as I glared at him. He opened his mouth and then closed it again so I pulled my hand from his wrist. "I cannot talk to you right now, I can't even look at you. You're a first level, you should get back to work before you're let go." I said.
"She's right, you don't have time to be messing around with us." Rave said as he walked out of the room.
"I know that." He said, I glanced at my brother and we both frowned at Maximilian who sighed, "I'm sorry, Aria." He said, "You have to listen to me explain before you leave, though."
"I don't have to listen to you." I said. "You – you faked your death, Maximilian."
"You don't want to know why?"
"No, I want to kill you." I said. He smiled and I let out a frustrated growl as I pushed him, "You're... You know, you can be really childish and impulsive and annoying and frankly... kind of stupid, but this – this takes the cake."
"Well, that's just mean." I narrowed my eyes and he held his hands up before he motioned back to the room, a pleading look on his face with his darkened brows making his sad eyes more noticeable. I cursed internally feeling somewhat sympathetic towards those eyes. Stupid eyes. I didn't say anything and just walked back into the room, glaring back at Maximilian when he followed me into the room with a small smile on his face. He turned to Rave once he had stepped into the room, my brother still in the hallway. "Rave... can you leave us alone for a minute?"
"Are you crazy?"
"Please? Come on, what can I possibly do to her?"
"I don't know, you seem to be full of surprises." Rave frowned before he tilted his head, "What is it with your family and mine? What kind of weird obsession is this?"
"I'm not – we're not obsessed." Maximilian looked offended.
"And yet, here you are. You faked your death. It's extensive, Maximilian."
"There's more to it! I did not – If you let me explain –" Rave smirked at how frustrated Maximilian sounded before he looked at me raising his brows. I bit my lip nodding. He looked back at Maximilian and stepped up to him causing me to step towards them just in case but Rave just placed his hand on Maximillian's shoulder lightly.
"You do not want to be on my bad side, Maximilian. You 15 minutes. I'll tell Tristan you're in the bathroom. Ari, your head's acting up." He walked away without waiting and Maximilian shut the door behind him lightly before turning to face me and I tensed realising the last time we were alone together was in his room, when he kissed me. I tried not to think about that feeling my face heat slightly and instead focused on the fact that he had 'died' and felt myself get angry again.
"So... Do you like my hair?" Maximilian was staring at me with a nervous smile. Don't hit him. It was wrong to just hit someone without reason... I did have a reason though. Still... I tried to calm myself but it wasn't happening. I felt my chest ache as I stepped forward and delivered a hard punch to his chest, even though he gasped at the pain and shock it was followed by another punch and another causing him to stumble back. "Ah – Aria –"
"What the hell is wrong with you?!" I yelled pulling my wrist from his hands as he tried to stop my attack so I could punch him more until he slid under my arm and grabbed me from behind locking his arms around mine and my chest.
