"You'll open your eyes when I count to three, okay?"

James made Karigan close her eyes as he slipped behind her to surprise her with something she would not expect in a very long time. He embraced her from behind, kissing the top of her head and burying his face in her hair for a moment, then letting go and returning to business. He fiddled over something behind her back, the movements of his fingers coming to her ears.

She could hear he was up to something behind her back and it worried her. It had been only 3 years since they had started dating and yet Karigan still thought he could be the most unpredictable guy alive. Maybe it was the fact that she was in love with him, and it made her distracted to everything else that happened around them.

James moved things here and there, under the beating sun, in the grass. He stood on the park grounds with his hands on a basket filled with water balloons. It was insanely hot outside, and twenty-one year old Karigan was tired of waiting in her sky blue sundress. Her hair was now long and fell down to beneath her hips.

James had grown to be a handsome tall man, with sparkling dark eyes and dark hair that occasionally fell into his eyes. He liked to wear hoodies, but in this heat he wore a T-shirt and some black jeans that made him look even more attractive than he was usually. He loved to feel the sun on his skin and the grass on his bare feet.

Karigan was also barefoot, but beneath the shade of a gigantic tree that made the air around her fresh rather than heated like the rest. She was waiting for his signal.

James had a mischievous face on as he grabbed a balloon from the basket and held it in his hand with a grin.

He gripped it softly and, with the grin never leaving his handsome face, he threw it at Karigan's bare back.

Splash!

"SHIT!" She exclaimed as she felt the warm water splashing against her back. Karigan turned as soon as she could, only to hear James laughing at her surprised face.

He held his own torso as he laughed soundly. "Oh man, you should have seen your fa-"

He didn't have time to finish, because she had ran forwards and grabbed her own balloon, that had landed on his head. The water dripped off his hair as he opened his eyes wide and looked at Karigan with sparkling and playful eyes. She was smiling now at him, her teeth shining with the sun that smiled above.

"What was that for?" Karigan asked him as she received a balloon to the knees, courtesy of her boyfriend James.

He laughed as a balloon whistled past his head and landed behind him on the soft grass. "Because you said you were hot, and well I wanted to cool you down." He smiled mischievously as another balloon hit him in the stomach and left his shirt hanging on to his body because of the water. He wasn't the most romantic man on Earth, but it shook Karigan's heart that he remembered her whining.

"I am hot." She cocked her head and smiled. It was a playful and joking smile, one that made James's knees tingle.

"Yes you are." He confirmed as he threw another balloon at her and she dodged it easily to the right. Karigan was getting the hang of it. She grinned as she threw one at his chest, and hit successfully.

As he received another one to the stomach, James could not have been happier.

                                                                   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Karigan laughed as James ended up with peanut butter sandwich all over his face.
He had on his nose, cheeks and forehead, but was smiling as he watched her laugh and grin all wide on her face. He couldn't believe it had been only 3 years. Yes, he had to work up the courage to ask her if she could officially be his girlfriend, even if they already act as they were a couple.
James grinned even more as he smacked his own sandwich on Karigan's face, and she widened her eyes in surprise. But her smile betrayed her as she started to grin again and the laughter invaded her throat like a disease. He loved to see her laugh and be happy. He was laughing too, and the sun beat down on both of their wet bodies.
"You know what's tomorrow, don't you?" Karigan asked as the laughter died down. They were holding hands beneath the giant tree as the leaves swayed with the motion of the wind and they felt the sun on their skin.
"Yeah... dinner with your parents, right?" James sighed.
Ever since they had started dating, Karigan's parents, had not approved of James. Don't get him wrong, they were very nice people, but they just didn't think he deserved their daughter. They were sweet with her friends and even the Brooks brothers and Daniel but somehow they couldn't manage to accept James, even though Karigan was twenty-one and living alone.
"It's not the worst thing in the world..." She started, but looked at James's eyes and sighed also. "Well, it is, but..." Karigan didn't finish and stared at the floor.
James placed his finger underneath her chin and lifted up her gaze with a smile. "It's alright, I'll try to do the best I can." He stared into her clear eyes, and got lost in them once more.
As his finger traced her jawline, he pulled her close and kissed her softly on the lips. His hand caressed her cheek and felt her skin under his fingers. It was amazing how, after all this time, she could still make him shiver and feel butterflies everytime they kissed or touched. The love was still alive after all this time.
Karigan smiled under the kiss, and James recognized it as a playful but loving grin. She was up to something and he knew it. That smile drove him crazy.
And then it hit him.
Literally, a balloon exploded above their heads and soaked both of them.
He stopped kissing her and gasped for air. Karigan was laughing and smiling at him mischievously with an evil grin.
"I still had one." She smiled at James.  He laughed as the water dripped off his nose and hair, grinning as he pulled her close.
Both their lips were an inch from the other and they engaged in a passionate kiss as James raced his fingers through Karigan's hair and pressed her back against the tree. They both felt each other's heat with a grin and beating heart that accelerated with every touch. Karigan placed her hand on James's cheek as he moved his lips up her neck.
He kissed her once at the base.
Then a second at the middle.
It tickled her skin and made her heart tingle.
Then a third time at the base of her chin.
He kept repeating the same phrase.
"I love you. I love you. I love you."
                                                                   ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
