Chapter 8

Riddhi could hear Jai softly breathing as he reclined his head on her lap. He was fast asleep, but she was slowly opening her heavy eyes. He was curled up in a ball, with his hands on her legs. He looked so peaceful, with stains of tomato sauce on his cheek, and softly breathing. He shaked occasionally, his body shifting with his dream in process. Riddhi felt his body inhaling and exhaling, his chest lifting and lowering everytime he took air in.

On the couch, Karigan was laying on James's chest, curled up with warmth. James had his eyes closed and was snoring softly, his arm wrapped her protectively. He pieces of pepperoni and ham in his hair. He still had the XBox controller on his lap. Daniel was sitting on the floor, with Kate on his lap, also sitting, but also asleep, her head reclined next to his. Their legs interwined like strings, knotted into each other. A piece of pizza was pasted on his cheek.

Beau had fallen asleep on the floor aswell, with Rebecca placing her head on his shoulder. He had his hand over her shoulder, and she cuddled next to him happily. An XBox controller was on his other hand, still being gripped softly. Isa was curled up in a ball on one corner of the floor, trying to keep herself warm with her own body. But her hand was extended outwards. Luke reclined on the side of the couch, his head bent to the side. His hand was also placed on the floor, but it wasn't alone. It gripped Isa's softly, just the slightest touch, a warmth spreading across their hands.

Riddhi could barely lift her eyelids, because the fatigue overwhelmed her like a striking wave. She managed to have a clear view of the clock that hung over the TV. It had a white background and simple black numbers. The time was 7:50 am. Riddhi widened her eyes with a worried and surprised look on her face.

"OH SHIT!" She exclaimed, waking Jai up with a startled face. He looked adorable with his hair messed up and tomato sauce pasted on his cheek. His brown eyes regarded her with a sleepy look.

"What's wrong?" He asked her, his eyes heavy.

"It's 7:50!" She exclaimed, as if saying that explained everything. She looked at Jai, her dark eyes alarmed and worried.

"So...?" 

"School starts at 8!" She lifted herself up, with clumsy but fast movements, kicking Jai off her. She tried to climb the sofa and jump to the back, her feet getting knotted with each other. She used her arms to lift herself and try to parkour herself to Isa's room. But she ended up falling on the floor, headfirst. Jai laughed at her, as she groaned in pain.

"Come on, let's bail." He said as he curled back on the couch.

"No! It's school, and if I'm absent again, I'll fail English." Riddhi said in a small voice.

"Oh. In that case..." Jai started to stand up, yawning. He cupped his hands around his mouth. "OI! GET UP YOU LAZY ASS FOOLS!" He shouted, loud enough to wake people in China.

They all groaned with laziness, but Beau spoke up. "What the fuck, man?"

"We have to get to school." Jai stood up and stretched his muscular arms, swinging them around as Riddhi steadied herself and dusted the soil off her clothes.

"Let's not." Daniel snuggled himself into Kate's neck, and she just smiled. She could smell him, and his scent was of raspberries and soft cologne.

"Yeah, let's. Riddhi can't afford another lost day, she'll fail." Jai was already steading his hair. He was pressuring everybody to get up as fast as they could.

"Alright, man, we'll get up." Luke started to wake up slowly, and retracted his hand from Isa's as if he hadn't noticed. He passed a hand through his hair and smiled slowly. His eyes shone distantly with amusement as Jai started kicking James to wake him up. The response was lazy groaning and a fountain of insults.

"Jai, you bitch." Daniel moaned as Kate unwillingly moved away from his muscular torso and warming arms. The heat from their embrace was cut short by their separation. Kate mumbled whilst she asked Isa for a comb.

"Sure." Isa answered her, and they left for the bathroom. Riddhi trailed behind them, slowly gliding over the floor. 

James was barely moving, not wanting to wake the fast asleep Karigan that rested on his lap. But she was a very hard person to wake up. She was stubbornly asleep, breathing in and out softly.

"Wake up, babe." He whispered as he placed a soft kiss on her forehead. Karigan did not move, though. Her eyes remained shut. James shook her a bit more roughly. "Babe, you have to wake up." 

She did not wake up, but she seemed so peaceful and adorable that James had trouble having the willpower to take that away from her. He caressed her face and whispered to her again, but with no satisfying result. Rebecca was fixing her hair, barely lifting her head up from Beau's shoulder. As she did, she watched James with desperate eyes, trying to wake Karigan up. She stood up, her bare feet tip toeing around the pieces of pizza scattered around the floor. As she came to a stop next to James and Karigan, he looked up at her.

Rebecca simply yelled. "GET UP BITCH WE'RE LEAVING!" 

Karigan stumbled over James's chest and landed with a thump on the floor. She rubbed her head with very angry and agitated look. "What the hell?" 

"You wouldn't wake up." Rebecca said with a smile, but helped Karigan up. Her hair had been siffened up into a lion like mane. Her eyes were bloodshot and she had a tired look on her face, murderous even. But James thought her the most beautiful and adorable being on the planet. 

"Come on, I'll fix you up." Rebecca pushed her towards the bathroom, pushing Jai and Luke aside to make way for them. They disappeared into the room that led into the bathroom.

"These girls are gonna be the death of me..." James yawned as he stretched his arm behind his back.

"We're gonna be LATE!" Riddhi pressured impatiently. Rebecca was fixing Karigan's hair and Kate was going through Isa's closet, because her shirt was covered in tomato sauce and pepperonis, therefore it was unwearable.

"Calm down." Rebecca cooed softly, as she undid a knot in Karigan's soft blonde hair. "We'll miss first period, so what?"

"Well... I have English until 3rd... But..." Riddhi considered. "Oh, alright." She smiled as she accepted Rebecca's proposal. 

"Good." Rebecca looked her and gave her a friendly wink. "Come here and help me with Karigan's hair, please." Riddhi scurried next to her, and Rebecca handed her a brush with a black and grey plastic handle. Rebecca fussed over Karigan with black hairpins, whilst Riddhi brushed her hair.

Kate grabbed a black T-shirt with the white Nirvana logo on it. "Nice tee Isa." She said to her with a smile, and a playful tone. "Can I borrow it?" She asked.

"Sure." Isa answered shyly, smiling. She wore a white T-shirt with a low neck, that had a black Batman logo on it. She wore skinny jeans with a pair of white Converse and the hoodie she had worn yesterday, the black one. "You'll look really pretty in it."

"Thanks." Kate started to change her T-shirt. "And some shoes?" She asked hopefully, looking down at her own dirty and wet Toms.

"Sure." Isa grabbed a pair of white Toms, and tossed them to her shyly. Kate thanked her and began to change her clothes.

"Can I borrow some too?" Rebecca asked, as she hurried over to Isa's side, leaving Riddhi alone with the task of Karigan's hair. She spotted a pair of silver sparkling flats, that laid in the corner of the closet. "Those?" She pleaded with her eyes. "We can't wear heels to the schools because the system's a bitch."

In the end, Rebecca ended up borrowing a long striped silver and black blouse, with long sleeves. It fitted perfectly with her skinny jeans. Karigan borrowed a sky blue and white striped shirt, with a slight opening in the back, a white hoodie and some red Converse. Riddhi wore a small navy blue dress, with long sleeves and also a pair of nude flats. They all wore their hair on their shoulders, except Rebecca, that had pulled it into a high messy bun, but she still had some hair falling on her face, caressing her face.

Isa was smiling and laughing, but she was scared. School ment people. THOSE people. And she could start to feel the dread.
