Isa hated Mondays.
She decided she had to attend school eventually, because she'd miss another day of school when her mother's funeral came around. And she'd fail a lot of classes if she missed another one. So, there she was, her backpack hanging on her back and her black hoodie covering her body from the cold morning air. She had her hood on, that covered most of her face in a shadow.
She walked the hallway, being the invisible girl she always was. It almost seemed that nothing had happened in the last weeks. But it had. She had felt the change surge right inside her. The friendship, the laughs and maybe even falling in love a little. She didn't show much emotion, because she was afraid of people judging her for who she was.
Maybe she didn't know herself at all.
Isa slid down the hallways and turned a curve, her legs working faster and faster as she realized that people were starting to notice her walking around. Their eyes were like daggers that pierced her skin as she walked by. Her walk was about to become a run, she was panicking. Her head deepened into her hood as her eyes started to flicker with fear. She was praying not to be noticed.
She darted towards the right, and felt someone walking behind her. She cursed under her breath as she accelerated her own walk. She could feel the presence behind her accelerating as well, so her heart banged against her ribs. She did not feel like putting up with bullying right now.
A hand pressed against her shoulder and turned her around.
Isa closed her eyes and braced herself for endless torture.
Silence.
She opened her eyes, closely, then they just flew open as she realized she was standing in front of Luke Brooks, staring into his gorgeous brown eyes. She felt herself gasp because she could smell his cologne, her face was at the height of his neck. He was breathing slowly as she backed away, because her face was practically buried in between his chest and neck.He still had his hand on her shoulder, but as she backed away, he slid it off.
His hair was a mess and his lip ring was shinier than usual.
"You alright?" He asked her, as they both looked at each other awkwardly.
She moved a lock of hair out of her face. "Yeah." But both of them knew that was a complete untrue lie.
Luke moved a step closer to her. "Please, don't lie to me." He had puppy dog eyes, and even Isa couldn't say no to those pleading sparkling eyes.
"Look, I appreciate that you care, but please just leave me alone." She replied and looked at the floor, as she felt thoughts surging in her head like a crazed tornado.
Luke stepped even closer to her and lifted her chin up with his finger. He gazed at her with some sort of hardened stare. "I made a promise, and you know that. You know I have to make you stay alive. So, of fucking course I care, and I won't ever leave you alone." He was angry somehow, and he had never talked this way to her.
He just looked her in the eye, hard. "Are you free this Thursday?" He asked her, changing the subject suddenly. as his gaze softened.
Isa mentally cursed. It was her mother's funeral, but she didn't want anyone knowing about it. It was perfect bullying ammo for the Rachel cannon. She had started to have a feeling in her gut, and it told her that Luke she could trust. But her heart said otherwise. She knew from past events that she couldn't trust any male, yet this was a different situation.
She sighed.
Luke did not expect her to pull him around the hallway, then around a corner and into a janitor's closet that lay by the right. He did not expect her to grab him by his hoodie and practically choke him to death while she did so. But he also did not expect her to smile slightly at his confused and befuddled expression whilst he composed himself in the alcohol smelling janitor closet with mops covering the walls and bottles of some strange green liquid lined up in the floor.
He felt himself smile as well.
She caught herself smiling, and turned to her usual expression, much to Luke's dismay and disappointment.
"Okay..." She breathed as she paused and thought about it a bit more. Everything seemed to lead to the same answer, she had to tell him. "It's my mom's funeral." She looked at the ground once again, expecting a reaction of 'I'm sorry' or just plain silence, because that's what she normally got when people became knowledgeable that her mother had died.
He simply looked at her with those brown eyes. Before Isa could even react or object to it, Luke felt the words leaving his mouth.
"I'm going with you."

Karigan was texting Isa furiously.
She had just seen her darting around the hallway, and had chased her from a safe distance at first. Then the crowd of people had surged around them and she had lost her from her sight. She had cursed as she started to turn around. Karigan thought she saw Luke in the ball of people, but it was hard to tell considering the enormous mass that they formed.
Now, there she was, with her phone between her hands, her fingers pressing buttons with fury, almost seeming violence. Karigan was certain it had been Isa, so she should be able to answer her messages during classes or something. But even herself wasn't certain.
The whole school had acknowledged Isa's mother's death, because of the story in the news and their last names being the same. The news even showed footage of Isa's father, a rich owner in a large company in the West. Karigan wished they hadn't done the story because now everyone was talking about how the introvert girl was a richass bitch. Nobody even cared that her mother had been brutally murdered everyone just talked on and on about her money.
Karigan prayed that Rachel, Brad and other cruel populars wouldn't use it as an argument against Isa, even though she knew it was unevitable.
Now she needed her to text her back. She had probably left 40 missed calls and 20 new messages on Isa's cellphone.
She cursed.
First, James had decided to go all secretive and FBI on her and now Isa decided to ignore her. She was done with the world. Okay, maybe she was kinda excited because James had been asking her all those random questions, that just maybe he was preparing some surprise. Yet she dreaded that maybe, just in the slightest, he was just mad at her for kissing him.
Well he had kissed her.
Dammit.
She felt they had come closer, well, considering she was madly in love with him. But he had become so secretive, hiding stuff from her, bolting up when she surprised him and even hiding his phone from her when she asked for it to play some game. Maybe it was some sort of surprise or maybe he was just avoiding her.
She facepalmed herself.
Karigan stop being goddamn paranoic. She reprimended herself.
Her phone buzzed.
She opened it and realized what she was waiting for had just happened. Isa had answered. Karigan felt like getting to her knees and thanking the sky for creating a miracle. Instead, she just chuckled to herself and opened the new message. She had basically pured her typing magic on the last messages so she expected a longer answer. She had also invited her to her own house today night to catch up on stuff.
Yeah, sure, I can. What time? I'll tell you everything there, I promise.
As Karigan read the message and started typing a rapid answer. James swirled in her mind for a minute or two but she pushed him away.
She had just told her she'd tell them everything,
But somehow Karigan knew that wasn't true.
